Infected toes, getting frustrated at lack of progress

My daughter had 2 ingrown toenails, both toes were swollen, red, puss coming out... our diabetic team referred us to a surgeon but since March we had no information when and what is going to be done. So we made an appointment in April at London Podiatry Centre in Lewisham, nail was removed and...

    How to motivate a teenager?

No, she lost weight when being on honeymoon, she never was higher than 8-9 and we though 9 was high. [emoji22] Honeymoon actually lasted for about a year as they said. But when we got pump and dropped Levemir she quickly started gaining weight. I don’t know why it changed everything so...

    How to motivate a teenager?

Thank you, I have just ordered the book! Yes, Lisa always had a bit of extra weight. But when she went to school at 4 she quickly regained normal weight. It’s mostly about physical excercise, no one can stay in healthy weight lying on sofa whole day long... problem is how to make her get up. :)...

    How to motivate a teenager?

Thank you so much for your reply! Diabetic team was concerned when Lisa was 45 kilos a year ago. But now she’s 60 and they probably try to ignore it. [emoji23] Diabetic specialist in diets only repeats she must consume 200 carbs a day. 200 carbs! [emoji33] She did a lot of sports before she was...

    How to motivate a teenager?

Hello all! I have a 12 year old, she was diagnosed 4 years ago. And when she used pens (Novorapid) and Levemir, she was losing weight rapidly. Then she was given Medtronic 640G. It didn’t work well for us at all - she started gaining weight. In May last year she was given fiasp- that’s when her...

    Oat porridge

She travels by bus as it’s safer for her, she’s 11. Walking would take around 30 minutes, with a heavy backpack (what do they put in there these days? ).

    Oat porridge

Hi, even if she has about 5.5 before meal, gives 3 units for 29 carbs of porridge - she’ll get spike of 12 or 16 in about 30 minutes or so. :( But she buys Sainsbury’s ready porridge - maybe that’s why?

    Oat porridge

Help! My daughter (she’s 11, type 1) loves oat porridge and she’d love to eat it in the morning before school but... there is always a spike. No way to avoid spikes? Or maybe there are brands of porridge you could recommend please? [emoji26]

    The Tummy Beast

Great poem. :) I try to ignore the beast but sugar addiction wins quite often. :(

    Very very stressed and scared

You can do it. And even more - you’ll get used to it and won’t see it as anything extraordinary very soon. In my son’s class there is a 4 year old boy with diabetes, I see sometimes how teachers do finger pricks for him and he waits patiently, he doesn’t cry. He has a pump, but still - a lot to...

    Full reversal?

Everyone is different, but hopefully you will be able to enjoy bread and rice every now and then. We found a very nice Livlife bread - doesn’t seem to make sugar go high and it’s very tasty. Rice - we buy brown, it’s healthier. We recently discussed restrictions with our 11 year old and she...

    Kitty’s Diabetes

Such a beautiful cat! Our first cat died in 2017, a month before our daughter got her diagnosis. Zews was a wonderful pet, big ginger mainecoon, we still miss him a lot.

    Crazy pets

Happy birthday to Freddie! I used to have a chihuahua - not sure it can be called a dog... :))) It’s name was Danny, but in our local clinic vets called him Terminator as he was surprisingly strong. :)

    Crazy pets

Our cats are the same - when I hear something falling on the floor, I don’t even jump anymore. :)))

    Crazy pets

We have 5 maine coon cats (mum and kids) and I chose one for my diabetic comics instagram project as he is officially mine after kids took others. [emoji23] But his sister is so funny that I can’t help making photos of her too - if she was a human, she’d be a star of horror movies. [emoji23]...

To pump or not to pump?

Dear friends, We have a pumpMedtronic 640G. At first we were absolutely excited, especially our 9 year old who loves gadgets. 2 years later, after so many hypers, we are not excited at all (our daughter is 11 now). Plastic cannulas often bent, we finally found that metal ones are much better...
