    New to insulin. Type 2

Remember even with insulin to watch the amount of total carbs being eaten. All carbs will raise the BSs. Keep a food diary to monitor how things are working.

    Type 1: Insulin To Recommend

I stopped using novorapid about 3 years ago as it stopped working so I use Apidra. I use Humulin I for my long lasting insulin but I also take some metformin SR as I insulin resistant mainly in the mornings. I cannot use Levemir or Lantus because of very bad side effects.

    Fast acting insulin advice

After doing the DAFNE Course I now test before and then usually 4 Hours after the meal. If I'm high before I'll do a dose correction using a 1:1 ratio and aim for 5mmols. So much depends on how quickly your quick acting work on you...Keep a food diary.

Type 1 Very high blood sugers

Hi Ian, I'd consider doing carb counting instead of injecting a set amount of novorapid at each meal. ask you DSN to teach you how to carb count and how to work out what ratio's to use. There is also a chance that the novorapid has stopped working. Mine did about 2 years ago and I changed to...

    The blood glucose level high

You're on a pretty high meal ratio with you using the 75:25 Humulog. Is there any reason why you're on this insulin? It's not working having to use so much. Why not ask the DSN to try something like Apidra and Humulin I for your background insulin. I use Apidra and Humulin I and I'm very...

    Dafne course

Yes it's a great course. The reason why it's 5 days is because the course looks at your BSs over 5 days on a 1:1 basis and making adjustments where required. I had my insulins changed for the better and I was allowed to speak my mind on one occassion re making me do a 1:10 ratio when I was...

    How many carbs are enough?

I did my DAFNE Course in 2013 and we didn't use a nutritionist at all. I note you keep mentioning that each additional will lower your BS by 2 mmols. This is just a basic guide and you'll have to work out what works for you. I use Apidra and before that novorapid but I used a correction ratio...

Please look at all food labels. It's usually shown as carbs per 100 grams weight. Your husband may need to adjust his medication. If his HBA1c is high say above 8-9% then he may require insulin. Speak to the nurse but keep a food diary and watch portion size with his meals, All carbs raise...

Can someone give me advice please?

As Louise M said in her post, The DAFNE Course is well worth doing. Ask your DSN or GP to get you on the course. I did the course in 2013 and I am now able to manage my diabetes so much better. I've been using the DAFNE Blood Glucose Monitoring Diary since the course although I've always used...

    Help with sugar roller coaster

Consider doing the DAFNE Course. It sorted me out in 2013 and it's much more than just learning how to carb count. You learn much more than the DSN will ever tell you.

    Dropping considerably quick

When do you test after each meal. DAFNE recommends 4 hours after you've eaten as most quick acting insulins take that time to work. If after 2 hours you're high, it doesn't matter as it depends on what you've eaten. I don't know if you carb count but try 4 hour testing and see what your BSs...

Insulin not working well. Type 2.

The doses you're on are very high and seems to be fixed. Why don't your care team try novorapid or Apidra and teach you how to carb count. By reducing the carbs/low carb meals is best. I'm type 1 and very insulin resistant and use Apidra plus 2 x 500mg metformin tablets with each meal. I...

    Atrocious dismissal of eye symptoms.

My op went very well, no pain and the large floaters were sucked out and the doc didn't have to refill the eye. Going back in Dec to see about the cataract as I've very little sight out of the eye and the optician says that the cataract will have to be removed.

Hi Bobby, What insulin have you been put on? I too was misdiagnosed as type 2 at the age of 60 and ended up in hospital and put immediately on insulins. I've had the sweats when I go hypo but not the skin stinks or stinging eyes. Yes, test as soon as you get these feelings. Are you injecting...

Low carb, IF, increased insulin resistance?! Help!

Hi Suzanneal, I'm type 1 and very resistant to insulin so my Apidra I take 2 X 500mg metformin tablets at each meal. I use Humulin I as my long lasting insulin. Some months ago my novorapid stopped working as I'd began to use a 1:1.5 gram of carb ratio ( almost 10:1 CP ratio) so I contacted...

    Lowish carb bread

Just remember each slice of different bread all very in weight, therefore the carb content per slice is different. Some may say 4 gram carbs per slice so check the carbs per 100 grams, Lidl sells a protein roll containing 8.5 grams carbs per 100 grams weight.
