Are more people getting Type 1 in their late twenties and early thirties?

My brother developed Type 1 at age 6. I developed diabetes at age 30 - they thought it was T2, but the medications didn't work of course. I was in denial as I was very slim at the time. It has since been diagnosed as 'latent autoimmune diabetes in adults' - LADA, which has a slower progression...

    Metformin

I was on Metformin for quite a few years. It did nothing for my BG levels but did give me low-level nausea, which was quite debilitating. In the end I just stopped using it. It is the first drug of choice likely because it is very cheap. What made a big difference to my insulin resistance was to...

    travel Shapes box

Some vitamin and other supplements come in small and very robust screw-top containers. I use these for new and old pen needles when travelling.

    Libre II sensor infection

I agree with Hopeful34. Probably irritation from the adhesive, which can be intense.

I disagree except that you are derailing the thread.

    Confusing and concerning.

Novorapid can lead to serious hypos 6 - 8 hours later - often at night if you main meal is in the evening. This is far worse than the rapid action of Fiasp, which is operating as on expects for a 'rapid' insulin. Not sure what you mean reference protein - what were you eating with the protein...

    Confusing and concerning.

The main -and very serious - disadvantage of LADA not being known amongst the medical fraternity is that it is so often misdiagnosed as Type 2. What follows is years of Metformin, diet etc etc, persistent high BGs and general disbelief that you are a 'compliant' patient until they begin the...

    Best/worst drinks?

Hi, if you are constantly thirsty that water won't quench then it sounds as if you might be very high blood sugar (apols if someone else has said this). Can you check your BGs? That might be the root cause. Water is the best 'neutral' drink imho.

    Food help !

At home I have cheese and ham for breakfast (cheese kept at room temperature). If you are on the go then a good cheesy omelette from a caff - just no toast with it!

    Confusing and concerning.

Hi, what about LADA? Latent autoimmune diabetes in adults? Characterised by gradual loss of pancreas insulin production, so the symptoms come on much more slowly than Type 1.

    Confusing and concerning.

Hi, I discovered years ago that carb counting ref 10g carb to 1 unit insulin just does not work. It certainly sounds like you have LADA - as I have. I went through a very similar path to what you describe. My main advice is that 'Novorapid' is anything but rapid for me. I could take a...

    Tresiba insulin problems

Hi Becca59, I'm sorry to hear about the bruising. I used to get a lot of bruising because the needles were too long : 8mm and even longer - they reached down to where small blood vessels live. I was moved onto 4mm, 0.23mm (32G) BD Micro-Fine Ultra and hardly ever get a bruise nowadays. I only...

    Tresiba insulin problems

Hi Becca59, I'm probably going to be flamed for this but I only use one needle per cartridge. I've been doing this for over 20 years with no problems. As long as care is taken, dexterity and vision is sufficient to recap the needle and the environment is clean. If I accidently touch the tip of...

Type 1 Random highs at 3am!

Definitely protest and get back onto Tresiba if at all possible. I used to be on Lantus and had various unexplained hypos now and again (I hadn't heard of the dangers of injecting into small blood vessels at the time). Finally, the whole daily dose must have gone into blood (or lymph) and the...

    Tresiba insulin problems

Your woes with Tresiba supplies have just started again here (W Wales). After three weeks waiting for a text from Boots I went in to see if the prescription was ready (30 mile round trip) "No, I'm afraid it's a MCS" Apparently 'Manufacturer can't supply' Though they did have my Fiasp - when...

Has anyone had any side effects from taking Lantus?

Hi, I used to be on Lantus and experienced a number of unexpected Hypos - the last which was dreadful. It must have gone into a blood vessel and instantly became 'fast-acting' for the whole dose of 16 units. It is a serious flaw and I reported it via the yellow card system. I managed to transfer...

    How fast is Trurapi

Was on Novorapid for years - but it was more Novosluggish (as others on the forum have said). Just like you, I would take more and more as BGs went up and then wham. For me it didn't kick in for at least two hours or even longer. It then hung around through the night. I managed to change to...

    Tresiba Flexpen Availability UK

Hi, I see what you are saying but in my experience the Tresiba Flexpen has a feature not present on the re-loadable pens. When the dose has almost been delivered the device pushes the last part in with more force - so it all gets delivered. Novopens (and similar) do not do this and to avoid loss...
