    Tresiba insulin problems

Hi Becca59, I'm probably going to be flamed for this but I only use one needle per cartridge. I've been doing this for over 20 years with no problems. As long as care is taken, dexterity and vision is sufficient to recap the needle and the environment is clean. If I accidently touch the tip of...

Type 1 Random highs at 3am!

Definitely protest and get back onto Tresiba if at all possible. I used to be on Lantus and had various unexplained hypos now and again (I hadn't heard of the dangers of injecting into small blood vessels at the time). Finally, the whole daily dose must have gone into blood (or lymph) and the...

    Tresiba insulin problems

Your woes with Tresiba supplies have just started again here (W Wales). After three weeks waiting for a text from Boots I went in to see if the prescription was ready (30 mile round trip) "No, I'm afraid it's a MCS" Apparently 'Manufacturer can't supply' Though they did have my Fiasp - when...

Has anyone had any side effects from taking Lantus?

Hi, I used to be on Lantus and experienced a number of unexpected Hypos - the last which was dreadful. It must have gone into a blood vessel and instantly became 'fast-acting' for the whole dose of 16 units. It is a serious flaw and I reported it via the yellow card system. I managed to transfer...

    How fast is Trurapi

Was on Novorapid for years - but it was more Novosluggish (as others on the forum have said). Just like you, I would take more and more as BGs went up and then wham. For me it didn't kick in for at least two hours or even longer. It then hung around through the night. I managed to change to...

What have you eaten today? (Low carb forum)

Favourite treat, a mug of Bovril mixed in boiled water with a good glug of double cream. Delicious :)

    Tresiba Flexpen Availability UK

Hi, I see what you are saying but in my experience the Tresiba Flexpen has a feature not present on the re-loadable pens. When the dose has almost been delivered the device pushes the last part in with more force - so it all gets delivered. Novopens (and similar) do not do this and to avoid loss...

    Day-to-day varying vision?

There is a possibility that it is due to 'posterior vitreous detachment' where the vitreous gel separates from the retina. This can give rise to many floaters, which are very noticeable at first, but diminish as the gel moves further away from the retina and the gap fills with fluid. PVD's are...

    Over 40 statins as standard?

The GPs prescribe them primarily as a box-ticking exercise. I was prescribed them in the same way some years ago. After a few weeks my legs became very weak and my back muscles were very painful. It was the start of Rhabdomyolysis, stopped taking the statins immediately and the acute pain...

    No background insulin, nighttime hypos

I wonder if the time of action of the Novorapid is playing a part? I was on Novorapid for many years. Once I started monitoring BG with the Libre sensor (over four years ago) I began to realise that Novorapid is very slow acting for me - sometimes reaching a peak over six hours after injection...

    Freestyle libre sensors falling off

Hi, I have found Libre 2 much the same as the Libre 1. I sleep on my right hand side, which sometimes causes a snagging when I have the sensor on that arm. I have lost a Libre 2 sensor in the night - never happens on the left arm - but I want to rotate the sites. Sometimes the sensor is loosened...

    Waiting for Nurse appointment

Hi, I agree with the other posts about lowering carbs. Hi Pinkpantha, Agree with others that hba1c of 58 isn't very high at all and would likely be reversed with diet and exercise alone. Even though Metformin is widely prescribed (cheap) it is not without side-effects. NICE guidance states...

Eating out at cafe/coffee shop/garden centres

Agree with what's been said. Also, egg benedict on ham or smoked salmon (no bun). Garden centres and National Trust cafes are very difficult - such high carb. If I'm visiting such places I carry a few blocks of cheese (either home wrapped or the little prewrapped ones from a shop) in my pocket...

Anyone know the difference between too high basal insulin and bolus absobtion issues.

Hi, Some unexplained hypos can be due to delayed stomach emptying (gastroparesis). Just a thought, might be worth asking your diabetes team.

    Zero-carb beer

I like a beer - but even with the relatively low carb Holsten, it always pushes my BGs high, unless I have a large bolus. Having seen this thread I have given the Salute lager a go. It is a revelation! No increase in BG at all and it tastes very good too. As a biochemist I am intrigued how they...

Libre on prescription for type 2

You can get the reader for free directly from Abbott (Libre website) I find it so much better than a 'phone - it is nice and small. There isn't quite so much functionality as the App, but does have a log book, trends and six different analyses.

The honeymoon is over. Now what?

Hi, I became diabetic in 1994 - misdiagnosed as type 2 for some years, then LADA. I was also on type 2 drugs for about 10 years after starting on insulin. They became ineffective after a while - to be honest I am not convinced they ever helped at all. My pancreas would have been still producing...

    Manuka Honey

Sounds very painful.:( Have you been tested for Helicobacter pylori? This bug in the stomach is the cause of most stomach ulcers and can cause acid reflux. If you have it then the treatment is very simple with some antibiotics. Many people have the bug with no symptoms, but then it can flare up.
