    Pancreas transplant

Forgot to say my HBA1C results are usually 35 to 37 with 37 being my highest so far. 30 was the lowest. It chucks the insulin straight into the blood same with any glucagon. Approx 20% of the insulin gets lost in the process.

    Pancreas transplant

I had a pancreas only transplant over 3 years ago. It seemed more luck and meeting a separate kidney consultant who put me in touch with a team that offered it. The criteria are a lot tighter than when I had mine and covered on the NHS website under pancreas transplant page. You cant mess up...

    OMG?Kidney and pancreas transplant

I had the operation Jan 2012 - in hospitial for 9 days and total time off work was 11 weeks. I can't take painkillers except paracetamol I had bad reactions to all other pain killers so I had to suffer a bit - it took about 6 months to really get used to it. Yes I do feel better and I'm glad I...

    OMG?Kidney and pancreas transplant

I had a pancreas only transplant (PTX) Jan 2012 and the blood sugars were a bit suspect, I failed the Glucose Tolerance Test it was 11 mmol 2 hours after the glucose. But I have since learned the organ can take up to 12 months to work at it's peak. The insulin goes straight into the blood and...

new recruit to Type 1 & the DVLA

Good luck with the DVLA I stopped insulin Jan 2012 I reapplied for my licence in Oct 2012 and I'm still waiting it. I don't think they understand you can cease insulin injections in certain cases. Were/are you taking Tacrolimus? If it's too high dose it affects the insulin production of the...

    High Two Hours After Meal

I used to have this quite often it's hard to get to the bottom of it. I thought it could be linked to wake up hormones etc? Some days I did hypos instead? From my DAFNE course I learnt that you can have variable ratios for insulin depending on what time of day it is when you eat my ration was 1...

    leg cramps

I saw a Senior Orthotist last week and he said mine was caused by muscle contraction, not helped by the charcot foot etc but suggested stretching exercises 3 times a day I still get twinges in the night but if I do I stretch them again.

    Charcot Foot

My left foot suffered a big episode of one in 2008 took a year to settle, My biggest problem was misdiagnosis as gout by A&E the Doctor said if the foot is warm and it's not an infection it has to be gout, all this to the two trainee doctors who will now repeat his mistake. I do try to educate...

    leg cramps

I tried the Quinine tablets but they did nothing - I now do stretching exercises before I go to bed and as a rule they are better. Mine are worse after work as I sit on my bum most of the day  I also have quite stiff ankles and just squeezing the ankle nerves/muscles can set of horrid...

    Night Sweats

I get them generally 2-4 hours after going to sleep but they wear off about 4-6 am and can get the opposite however in this really hot weather recently they have vastly improved? I can only guess that having high blood sugar may cause the body to try to burn off extra glucose resulting in a...

Is 3.5mmol to 3.9 mmol normal in non diabetics?

I think the DVLA use the below 4 for diabetics in case of further drops and you get more pronounced symptoms as a diabetic unless it's ultra well controlled As for the OP the normal range for non diabetics varies according on which article you read but a general guide is 3.5-7.8 If yours falls...

    So confused hba1c low

That's slap in the middle of the range for a non diabetic Normal HBA1C range is 20-42 so 31 is perfect As said if you haven't lost hypo awareness then keep it up mine have ranged from 30-35 since my transplant the last one a week ago was 33

30+ Cans of cola a day

Yes that's 30 x 355 ml = 10.6 litres wonder she doesn't wet the bed I'm supposed to drink 3 litres of fluid a day and TBH that's a struggle some days and it means I have to get up a few times in the night

30+ Cans of cola a day

It was 113 so I worked that out to be 6.3 in old money If it's not a fasting one then 6.3 is meaningless in the grand scheme of things as they said she had loads of insulin in her blood - just TV show hype, plus the paradox of her diet is too much insulin = lower blood sugar(sugar crash) +...

    Sweating Whilst Eating

I get that plain foods generally don't do it. Anything spicy does, vinegar, nuts apples and most of all cheese I had the cream that you rub in but it's far too greasy to bother with
