    Diabetes MediAlert Tattoo

See image of my medalert tattoo. Only had it done on Friday so still looking a little scabby and blurry but gives you the general idea. I decided to have a tattoo as the bracelets and necklaces I used to wear used to break easily and I didn't want to risk going without ID in an emergency. I...

Avoiding the 'dizziness' after a hyper

Hi @Thrill this isn't something I've come across. Sounds more like hypo symptoms to me! After going hyper I tend to get tired (due to the insulin not being present to act as the 'key' to allow glucose into the cells) but don't have the other symptoms you mentioned. Definitely something to...

    Saying hello,

Sounds positive! Keep it up and remember we're all on here for the same thing - to support each other and get support when we need it! J

Toujeo or Degludec instead of Lantus

Hi @charleym I switched from Lantus (Glargine) to Tresiba (Degludec) earlier this year. I'd been on Glargine for about 12 years and found that it was getting rather inconsistent for me. I used to take it (26 units) in the evening and by 4 or 5pm the next day my blood sugars were rising. I...

    Saying hello,

Hi @Chris Bowsher and thanks @Diakat for the referral! Chris I was diagnosed earlier than you (5yo) but had the same issues in early adulthood with young family, alcohol, rising HbA1c and general stress, anxiety and depression. I don't want to go into too much depth on here but if you want to...

Tips to stay healthy with Type 1 diabetes

Nice one @Robinredbreast - I totally agree with all of this. Some people might find it hard to start being kind to themselves but if you can get there it can make a world of difference.

How long were you on fixed doses for?

I was diagnosed in 1990 aged 5. Fixed doses twice a day (I think it was ActRapid). I stayed on that until I was around 19 and moved to Glargine and NovoRapid. No carb counting training at all - just told to take whatever I needed. Certainly took some getting used to! I was at university at the...

Forgot to put insulin cartridges in the fridge.

    Great idea! Thanks @Lynne C J

Forgot to put insulin cartridges in the fridge.

Good advice from @bangkokdiabetic and @Juicyj On a related note, I recently went skiing and kept my pens in a backpack on the first day. What a mistake! It was -16 and it obviously killed off the insulin because it worked about as well as injecting diet coke. J

    Struggling

Hi @JoJoS. Hang in there buddy. Everything that @Juicyj said! Plus... Diabetes has a nasty habit of making us feel rubbish at times. Unfortunately it's part and parcel of living with a life-long condition. What's helped me in the past is talking about how I feel (woohoo, you've already...

    Curcumin

There's quite a lot of evidence of turmeric helping control blood sugars (and loads of other stuff!). https://www.healthline.com/health/diabetes/turmeric-and-diabetes https://www.diabetesselfmanagement.com/blog/turmeric-diabetes-10-ways-turmeric-can-help/...

    Life insurance

No idea! I did look into this a couple of years ago though and all the prices I got were unbelievably extortionate!

    It’s my D-Day!

That's totally what I meant. Hence asking for info on how he managed it. None of us get a free ride and we all have to work to get results.

    Splitting lantus

Exactly the same with me. the Libre showed that I was rising around 20 hours after taking the Lantus. Switched over to Tresiba and it's been smooth sailing so far. Plus, it doesn't feel like I'm injecting sulfuric acid into my legs any more!

    now type1

Sorry to hear that @hognose but just bear in mind that's exactly what Theresa May went through and she's not doing too bad. Hmmm... On a brighter note, at least you now know what it is. It might seem like a whole new daunting challenge but today's support, research and medication surrounding...

    Burnt out

Hang in there @ArtemisBow . We all struggle sometimes, and most of us go through a time in life where it all gets too much. I went through the same thing after my son was born (I've written about it in detail somewhere else on here) but it won't last forever. talk to people, ask for help...

    Lantus to tresiba/degludec

Are you rotating your sites? Injecting into tough tissue can cause build-up which can be dangerous. I recently moved onto Tresiba (Degludec) and found it's a big improvement. I did have to reduce the dose though. I was on 28 units of Lantus and am now on 24 of Tresiba. Apparently this is very...
