hbA1c back under control, and into normal range

Yes, they were venous blood tests. I don't consider that I'm 'cured' but it looks like for me, controlling carbs and weight, and exercise can also control my BG. It's a good general guideline for a healthy lifestyle anyway, without having to live like a monk. I've certainly learnt how to...

hbA1c back under control, and into normal range

Just thought I update my status. Back in September I got an hbA1c reading of 45 and a couple of high fasting results (7.6 & 8.2). My GP diagnosed me as T2 diabetic as they don't appear to do 'pre-diabetes! Anyway, I: Went on a low carb (<80g per day) and low GI diet (with the occasional fish...

Was told today by my GP that I do not have Diabetes

For what it's worth, my GP diagnosed me at T2 on an hba1c of 45. Although a specialist diabetic nurse I know just reckoned that this was really just 'the high end of normal'. It'll be interesting to know how it works out for you.

    Newly diagnosed with prediabetes

Sounds like a similar situation to me back in september. I had an hba1c of 45, ave blood glucose of 6.2%. I got a TEE2 and went on a low carb diet. So far so good - I've lost 3kg and my BGs seem down, which I wouldn't know without a meter. I did see the diabetic nurse for tests on my feet...

    Nutritional info for alcohol?

If I have a beer at home these days, I drink Marston's Resolution bottled beer, chilled from the fridge; it goes well with spicy food like curry. Unfortunately my wife likes it too, even though she's a lager drinker! It is a low carb beer that has minimal measurable impact on by BG.I've not seen...

    Surprisingly Tolerable Snacks from Aldi

Thanks for the heads up. I'm looking for some lower carb snacks to pack in my rucksack when I go hill walking. These look ideal, and are cheaper than the ones I've been buying from Amazon.

ND research - the view from ‘the other side’ ( as some see them)

My South Yorkshire GP diagnosed me as T2 diabetic about 3 months ago on a hba1c of 44 & 6.2%. The eye & feet tests were OK and my BP is normal. They don't formally do pre-diabetes apparently. I'm not on any meds for it. I suppose its at least been caught early so I can have a go a reducing...

    Bs levels

I also have bacon and eggs for breakfast every Saturday morning, made with bacon from the local butchers (not like the Tesco stuff that shrinks to half the size, and leaves a puddle of greasy water when grilled). But sometimes a bacon sandwich is hard to resist, and well worth spending 20g of...

    Bs levels

On the subject of bread; I bought a loaf of hovis sliced wholegrain 'lower carb' bread from Tesco yesterday. It has 30% fewer carbs. So 2 slices of that would have about half the carbs of 3 slices of 'normal' bread. That could help cut down carbs while still having eggs n soldiers etc? It's...

    Alcohol in Moderation

I can't see me ever giving up modest amounts of single malt scotch, or nice reds, or the occasional real ale (I'll dial back more on that one because of their carbs though), etc.. Quitting them is unlikely to extend my lifespan by any significant amount, or improve my health one iota, and I like...

    Greetings from Yorkshire

I won't take too big a financial hit tbh - down from 5 x 7.5 working hr days to 3 x 9 (my employers have to agree to this thought!). But it does mean I can walk the dogs for an hour or two 4 times a week instead of 2. But more exercise, reducing the carbs by 50%, and heavily preferring low/med...

    Greetings from newly diagnosed T2

Yes, I was surprised at a T2 diagnosis at an HbA1c of 45. My wife's a medic and her colleagues reckoned it a pre-diabetes diagnosis was more appropriate. One suggested that GP surgeries are trying to catch diabetes earlier, so maybe it's a good wake up call. A less charitable suggestion was that...

    Greetings from Yorkshire

Hello from down the road in Sheffield. At the risk of reproducing the 4 Yorkshireman's sketch from Monty Python, I have a family history of T2 diabetes also. My brother who's 7 years younger than me has had it for 5 years, and it may well have been a contributing factor to a heart attack he had...

    Greetings from newly diagnosed T2

Just thought I'd introduce myself; I joined the forum a few weeks ago and have been browsing the threads for info. I'm a UK based 58 y.o male who was diagnosed with T2 diabetes about 6 weeks ago after a routine annual check up (I'm on statins to control a familial problem with raised...
