Will my bg readings improve? Breakfast ideas?

A nice breakfast is scrambled eggs with some kind of meat chopped into it, I had scrambled eggs with bits of sausage in it, lovely and does nothing to by blood sugar

Thanks for that. I'm going to do that the next few days as I'm desperate to get it sorted

Not injecting due to fear of hypos

Could you explain the fasting tests a little more for me please? I really want to get sorted. So from what times do I not eat and then at what time do I test, and what would the results show me? Many thanks

    Blood Monitors Compared

I've had the Bayer Contour USB since Saturday and so far I really like it. I had the normal Contour before. The USB is small and easy to carry round in the pocket of a bag without the case. It auto-logs everything as well which I think is very useful.

Not injecting due to fear of hypos

i'm losing all patience. I'm considering getting registered back at my home practice - I very rarely need to go and my mum can pick up prescriptions for me and bring them when she visits or I can get them when I come home. Need to discuss it with family and see what their advice is but that's...

Not injecting due to fear of hypos

so the latest is that despite having had my blood tests a week ago, with HbA1c printed on the request form it hasn't been done  no doctors in the surgery all week. so that's my waiting to try and get an appointment next wednesday! i've reduced my basal and found things a little better...

    Newly diagnosed Type 1

in terms of going on holiday i would go to boots and stock up on those dextrose tablets, or some lucozade tablets from the supermarket. they're very light and small so can go in your suitcase ok. in terms of general advice, just think how awful you felt for that month...and how the only way...

    Blood Monitors Compared

I have the bayer contour. The calibration solution (or what I presume it is, a small bottle with red liquid that you put on a test strip every now and then) is out of date by a couple of months. Is this something the GP can prescribe?

    Becoming A Fitness Freak!

I will definitely be wearing a helmet, I had a very dramatic fall while mountain biking last summer and really cracked my head on a rock, thank god I was wearing one then.

Not injecting due to fear of hypos

I think I'll have tonight injecting normal amounts but measuring every few hours and see, and take it from there.

Not injecting due to fear of hypos

I currently inject 16 units basal at bedtime, which is way more than half (I would say on average I inject 10-12 units fast acting per day). That basal is something that needed to be increased, as I began on 10 when I was first diagnosed and was needing more because of morning blood sugars...

    Becoming A Fitness Freak!

I'm moving to a new town for the next academic year and considering taking my bike with me to do some cycling to and from places! I'm very excited, I do cycle now but only for leisure rather than with a purpose. I think I'll enjoy it more although I definitely need to get some practice/advice...

Not injecting due to fear of hypos

i hadn't thought of temperature actually! The area I was working in yesterday was boiling hot inside, never mind what it was like outside! I'm shutting myself away to do an essay (allegedly...) so will be cooler, it'll be interesting to see what hypos I have. As for the half-unit pen, I will...

Not injecting due to fear of hypos

Had the appointment first thing and the nurse wasn't even a diabetic nurse! Sent me for the usual bloods and said to make an appointment for a certain GP for a week's time because apparently he's more of a diabetes expert. I'm a bit concerned as when I mentioned my issues to him last September...

Not injecting due to fear of hypos

thank you all for your replies! I'm looking forward to the appointment tomorrow as I feel I just need to take a grip of things and hopefully I will come out feeling motivated to sort things out! I will mention about my basal insulin level to see if the nurse agrees it might be that...

Not injecting due to fear of hypos

Just signed up, but I've browsed for a while. I'm 21 and was diagnosed type 1 in August 2010, so it's been about a year and a half. I very rarely will inject fast-acting insulin with meals, although I do inject long-acting insulin every night. I know it's really stupid to not inject properly...
