Braving the GP - Critique my notes?

I live in a very small town, so choice of GPs is limited. I actually had quite a positive experience. I decided to lay out my whole management strategy to her, I was hesitant because I thought I might get a raised eyebrow with LCHF, home-tesing etc. But on balance decided that it's just so...

Braving the GP - Critique my notes?

Well I essentially eat the same every day, and every time I have something different or there's something particularly unusual about the day (did more exercise, had a weirdly late dinner, tried a new meal, a new restaurant etc) I do make a note of it on my app. My portion sizes aren't creeping...

Braving the GP - Critique my notes?

So I'm reluctantly off to my GP. I'm going to register with a new one, but it'll take 3 weeks to get an appointment (boo...) so I've decided to bite the bullet as I really can't have it going up and up like this for no identifiable reason) Background is in my last post, but essentially my...

BG astronomical despite keto - Confused and upset

It's 21! What the heck!? This is stupid. Something's wrong. Also NO symptoms. At all. If I took NHS advice and didn't check my BG I'd be happily going about my business. Trying to find a new doctor to take me today! Thank you for all your support and advice, everyone! I'll report back if any...

BG astronomical despite keto - Confused and upset

Thank you! That's really useful. I'll definitely revisit the thyroid issue. Weirdly, I feel great, other than the anxiety over the last few days! I feel like I did when I was low carbing previously any my numbers were in the 5s and 6s. Energised, no symptoms, no fatigue. It's really very...

BG astronomical despite keto - Confused and upset

I would love it to be a metre problem, but I really don't think it is. My back-up metre (different brand) reads the same way (basically identical readings). I got my husband to test and his was as expected.

BG astronomical despite keto - Confused and upset

That's a very kind and generous interpretation. Maybe (hopefully) you're right. Frustration is exactly the right word. And I could do with some Avenger level strength and determination right now! Thank you for being kind.

....Now down to 9.5 from 17.7 this morning. Dammit, body, what are you doing?

BG astronomical despite keto - Confused and upset

I'm definitely overweight and suspect I was diabetic for quite some time prior to diagnosis so suspect T2 is right on the money. My dad was 25 when he was diagnosed with Type 1 though. Trying to be philosophical about insulin. Whatever works, right? I'm perhaps a little bit unfairly bitter...

BG astronomical despite keto - Confused and upset

I do suspect there's some comorbidity factors. I'm approaching an under-active thyroid and will presumably need medication for that soon, so that could be messing things up (although I think standard medication for this is likely to raise blood sugar, helpfully...). I used to have problems when...

BG astronomical despite keto - Confused and upset

This really helps to read, to be honest. Even when searching through this forum and the internet at large, I can't seem to find much about people who are diligently keto-ing and not lowering their blood sugar. It just seems like such a silver bullet for everyone. At least this tells me that...

BG astronomical despite keto - Confused and upset

Pretty confident. I've checked my non-diabetic husband and it's as expected. Cross checked with my backup metre and it's currently identical (14.3 down from 17.8 one hour ago...)

BG astronomical despite keto - Confused and upset

Thank you. I'll have a read of that thread. I tested my husband's BG and it was as expected. I've changed the battery and the test strips so quite confident its right.

BG astronomical despite keto - Confused and upset

Hi all, I've been back on the keto wagon for a month now, with quite a lot of intermittent fasting (typically around 8:16). My fasting blood sugar when I started was the same as when I was first diagnosed (hovering around 18). Progress was slow but I saw it come down. I was hovering at between...

That sounds like a really tough balance to strike. I'm impressed. In some ways I think it might be easier to be overweight as you're battling to get everything down and low carb is just so good for weight loss so it's two birds with one stone. But you've got to strike that balance of weight and...

I am overweight. I'm sure that factors in. I've lost 100lbs but still have another 100 to go! So a long battle. I lost weight first time round, but have just maintained since then. Not put any on. Perhaps you're right, weight loss could help bring it down again. Just disheartening to get...

I'm determined to stick with it this time. I'm wondering if my first reduction (18 FBG on diagnosis, then down to 6s within 3 weeks or so) was a fluke and whether it's silly to expect the same rapid reduction again. Do you mind my asking how long it took for your levels to come down?

I fear I have tried to fix, an already fixed system.

I'm offering a hug. I know it's really hard. I'm slightly struggling to understand what you mean by fixing a fixed system. As Jim says above, do you think that your low carbing contributed to that high pasta reading? When you were 'eating correctly' and your levels were in the 5s, what was...

    Second time around

Hi everyone, I posted a thread a week or so back, just having a grump. But now i'm becoming a bit concerned. I was diagnosed over a year ago. I immediately started LCHF (averaging 40g carbs a day, usually less) and my sugars came down from high teens to between 5 and 7 within a matter of...
