    New to Tresiba - Flexibility?

Hi Victry77, I read recently one of the quotes from Dr Bernstein in which he says that he prescribes Metformin for T1Ds whose bsl control fluctuates with monthly cycles or adolescent growth spurts. No dosing regime mentioned but maybe your could ask your doctor and DSN about that strategy...

Type 1: What are your HbA1c test results?

HBAIC 5.3%, on MDI, Actrapid and Levemir - and on very low carb diet.

Does low carb reduce blood pressure?

My understanding of it is that insulin influences a receptor on the surface of certain kidney cells (think of the receptor as a lock in a door that insulin helps to unlock) and that the more insulin in the blood in this case the that lock is opened and the less salt that can escape into the...

    Type 1 partner uncontrolled diabetes

Hi @Kat2105, i live in Adelaide. Sadly your partner is not the only one in history who has or is ignoring their diabetes condition. And as humans we do not always accept responsibility for ourselves. One could say that it is up to each of us to be careful and mindful of ourselves regarding our...

    Drinking black tea

I have to take some units of insulin to cover the effect of coffee. I have read that caffeine can influence the liver to release stored glucose but the size of this effect varies from person to person. DSo.. I wonder whether the caffeine in your lack tea might be the culprit. Another thought is...

HbA1C after 9 months low carb

In pregnancy they tend to use the BSL at one hour after as the 'high point' compared to at 2 hours for every other diabetic type. Low carb diet for me means the high point moves out to 3 to 4 hours and is more gradual. But in terms of GTT you would need to ask your doctor.

HbA1C after 9 months low carb

All the results, GTT etc ! The importance or otherwise of a 1 hr BSL on a GTT also needs to be sorted. Best wishes.

    Carb content or glycaemic response?

Why would we think that the Glycaemic Indexes are just a single value and not a range of values? There would be some individual variation, surely? And thus for any given Glycaemic Load there will be variations in Glycaemic response. By going low carb these variations presumably become less...

HbA1C after 9 months low carb

The doctor who ordered your tests should be able to interpret them and if s/he cannot (and is honest about it) may need to refer you to someone who can, such as an endocrinologist.

Type 1 Eating habits and weight gain

Pls read and have her read Dr Bernstein's Diabetes Solution (book or ebook). A study from the US states that Type One diabetics as a group are becoming overweight at a faster rate than the general population with less good control of BSLs so your fiance is not alone. Experts are stating that...

    Switching insulin

As far as I am aware DAFNE is not about dosing for protein and thus there is a distinct contrast.

    Switching insulin

From googling Isuman Rapid, (e.g. Isuman Rapid insulin profile) it appears to have an action similar to Regular insulin. If you google 'Apidra insulin profile' the graph shows a more rapid action profile and is often quoted as similar to other faster acting insulins like Novorapid and Humalog...

    Ancestral Health Symposium 2019

Thank you @Indy51. I shall look forward to watching them. Much of modern medicine seems to have lost touch with the important lessons to be learnt from the past !!

    Banning snacking on public transport....

That is bad news. Diabetics have a right to eat when they need to regarding hypos etc. A discrimination case in the making methinks if transit police get too antsy.!!

Starting now, Radio 4 Statins to be made available over the counter

Dr Paul Mason in a lecture on Statins (Denver Low Carb series, I think, states that stains have a 25% side-effect rate. (which includes death and severe crippling muscle damage.) A subscribing to zoeharcombe.com would reveal that statins in trials have not ever been statistically proven to show...

Mother shares pain of losing her son following misdiagnosis of diabetes

Tragic and heart rending. I wonder if other expert witnesses and asked about the effect of sepsis AND insulin overdose on a young child's brain function. I wonder if someone in an expert role could conceivably say that an insulin overdose did not cause brain damage (by itself). But unless...

    Banning snacking on public transport....

My concern would be that they start issuing fines or conductors, driver etc are given the power to force you off the bus, train etc. Just great in the middle of a hypo !!!

DO YOU WANT TO JOIN ME TO MAKE A CHANGE TO CURRENT GUIDELINES?

In Oz our health system tends to subsidise health items such as prescriptions, test strips etc as well as using this to impose some restrictions on who is eligible for a rebate etc. Maybe that is something to aim for with the NHS rather than the usual? Yet as has been pointed out Dr Unwin has...

No benefit to too tight a control of type1 diabetes?

Dr Bernstein's personal story is another great example of where exemplary BSL control paid dividends.
