Twitter threads on why most GP's won't suggest low carb

I apologised if I offended anyone. It was never my intention or my stereotype, it was one that guys brought up endlessly. If you worked in sexual health you will be familiar with it. This site includes many topics that are nothing to do with diabetes per se so I think that was gratuitously...

#74 how very interesting. Mod took out a sentence in my post (re black guys). This was in no way racist, just a comment on how things were and the age old issue of size. Pretty much a running joke for us all. I find it pretty concerning when people believe it’s ok to censor. I had this once...

Hahaha, I am considering going for the record of number of mod corrected posts. I wonder just how many members of this site are that sensitive? Working in sexual health, I think I have heard pretty much everything. Butt plug anyone? Good for those metformin or xylitol moments :)

Ah, sexually transmitted infections. People now assume that just everything is treatable. Until antibiotic resistance really does become a global reality which may not be far off. Plus people are ignorant, afraid of shame, stigma, disclosure issues, gender, education or lack of it, selfishness...

Agree. Someone who comes from a culture that is accustomed and dependent upon carbs...rice, pasta, cassava, yam, potatoes, corn, whatever, is not going to be filled with joy and bonhomie when advised their cuisine of preference will make them very unwell.

Guzzler, perhaps I have not been clear in my posts. There is a world of difference i. how I, a nurse regarded health spending and how a budget holding beaurocrat manager regarded the money. Budget holders, non clinicians, don’t / cannot think long term gains or outcomes because their appraisals...

    Post your annoyances to vent!

Well...actually you could but chose not to. Different thing. Do you need to talk to someone? I took in my mother when my father died, she behaved badly and I put her in sheltered housing. She had no excuses for her behaviour other than not wanting me to have a partner.

No, in health care that is not true. If you don’t supply a service, you save money. It’s irrelevant whether nor not people benefit. That’s a speculative, long term possible outcome and managers are into balancing budgets, saving money. Nothing else.

Ok. Reality check time here. NHS budgets were apportioned on a year by year basis. No 5 year plan or anything useful like that. So people like me had to balance the book. Few excuses accepted. Now in GP surgeries they have income streams depending on various factors but the expenditure on...

HCPs in my area of speciality really did have to be up to speed on research, thought, practices. Early days of HIV meant people like me in major London hospitals which specialised in HIV came across a variety of issues, self medications, bathtub remedies that no scientific journal, let alone the...

Have you tried telling her to shut the f*** up? That usually gets a result.

My GP at my appt of diagnosis when I requested a meter and the goodies, said the local commissioners do not fund these because people don’t know how to use them. Another example of one size fits all. Problem is if patient a is judged to be competent to apply sense /knowledge but patient b is...

    My new best friends

I bought an air fryer yesterday. Tried out my neighbours 2 days ago and our experiments went ok. I fried potato peelings...need to be a smidge thicker but they were nice. Ditto finely chopped kale (normally loathe this stuff) ! She did sweet potato skins and then slices of butternut squash...

Health promotion was always the gold standard from our NHS perspective. Funding was often largely lip service and there is always the ‘horse to water’ issues. More recently public health and the budget was moved from NHS to local authority but no ring fencing!! So if your borough prefers to...

At the risk of boring you all, may I tell you a story about vested interest? Ok, think mid 90s. I regularly attended a monthly senior hospital meeting as the senior nurse in community (the head of dept was very nurse friendly). New drug - viagra - was causing concern to budget bunnies as it £7...

I think I might be getting the hang of this...

I sleep like a log for over 8 hours with a couple of brief wees during the night after which I fall asleep pretty much immediately. I think my first waking bg is probably the maximum it gets first thing. Very annoying that I don’t understand the logic or the process.

Do you mean the liver dump does not happen as your brain begins to wake? I assumed this to be true as I always did a test before getting out of bed, never after I had been for a wee. Oh well, such is life. I would love one of those implant jobbies so I could actually monitor myself hour by hour...

The other issue for health careers which I omitted to address is risk management. We - as a society - tend to follow the trends of our American “cousins” who at the drop of anything larger than a pin, sue. We have also become increasingly litigious and health professionals are very wary of...

My liver dump readings are worse than several months ago. No idea why that might be but I made executive decision not to bother with early morning bg. So not done for several weeks. Sky has not fallen on my head as yet. As I limit my carbs and don’t knowingly do sugar apart from xylitol, I hope...
