    Water Fast and Christmas Past

The morning of Day 12 and my water only fast is over. To summarize, I started this because my 28 day moving average FBG had crept up from 5.5 to 5.9 with the dawn phenomenon variance accounting, on average, for 0.5. I am on no diabetes medication whatsoever and my HbA1c when measured in...

HBa1c result came back - totally deflated

Sorry to hear this, but I'm sure they will exercise a little latitude as you are only a few points out... 57.4 vs 53.0 mmol/mol. Strange that they're stating your HbA1c in percentages when standard practice is mmol/mol to avoid confusion with mmol/l fasting blood sugar. Anyhow, good luck and...

    Water Fast and Christmas Past

Err no it wasn't, but as I'm very partial to a slab of steak if I've been overdoing the protein this is the culprit.

    Water Fast and Christmas Past

Day 11... the final day as a masochist and thoughts start to wander around food, specifically what I might have for breakfast tomorrow. Weight is 67.3 kgs and FBG is 4.3. It was also 4.3 at bedtime. Aside from the levels I am very pleased with the consistency of the readings having not had a...

    Water Fast and Christmas Past

Thank you @Ponchu. With one more day to go (and two weigh-ins) my BMI is 20.9. However, my purpose was not primarily to lose weight (although no complaints) but to see whether an extended fast would reduce my FBG and dawn phenomenon. When I come out of this I will take the advice of @bulkbiker...

What was your fasting blood glucose? (with some chat)

    ...and also magnesium.

What was your fasting blood glucose? (with some chat)

I ran a tub of strips through a Codefree in the interest of frugality, but found it measured both high and inconsistent compared to other meters I had. Because I tend to be obsessive about such things I spent a lot of time researching and trying different machines. The two I finally settled on...

    Water Fast and Christmas Past

Day 10 and one more to go. Nothing much has changed: Weight remains at 67.8 kgs. FBG was 4.4 this morning and last night's reading was also 4.4. Still feeling reasonably energetic and looking forward to a brisk walk after the streets are well aired.

    Diabetes Natural Treatment? TRUE?

I am absolutely convinced that you are correct... in most cases T2D can be cured (or reversed if pedantic) by an LCHF diet and intermittent or extended fasting. As you rightly assert, we probably remain intolerant to excessive carbs, but, as to the rest of it, we're back to normality.

    lost weight through dieting

That's really good going... well done! Purely for interest, why are you discarding the yolks?

    Water Fast and Christmas Past

Day 9 and things have been so hectic that I haven't had time to report. Weight is 67.8 which means that my weight loss has slowed down to 0.5 kgs over 2 days. FBG was 4.6 and 4.9 at bedtime. Ketones are 6.8. As my ketone readings have settled around 7.0 ish I've taken an executive decision to...

JOURNALIST -Pharmacists role in lifestyle medicine

Thank you for the link. I was aware of the debacle with Tim Noakes and Jennifer Allison but this one completely passed me by. Isn't it telling that at the same time there was a DAA Public Announcement ... "The DAA Board, together with new CEO Robert Hunt, have decided to conclude Corporate...

JOURNALIST -Pharmacists role in lifestyle medicine

The main problem I guess is peoples' reaction to anything outside of the accepted norm. So, would a pharmacist stick his neck out and suggest a regiman that is not main-stream?... I think not. Just one patient reporting a stomach disorder or whatever and he risks being sued, or chastised by...

    Water Fast and Christmas Past

And that's for only 50cl. It's all about face and you demonstrate your affordability status (?) by bringing the most expensive bottle you can. Then, unlike a fine wine that you might sniff, swirl and savour, you chuck it down your neck in double quick time to cries of "gambay". My missus is from...

    Water Fast and Christmas Past

Thank you for the advice. I will do precisely as you suggest and start small. I will, however, need to be fighting fit for a Chinese banquet 33 hours later and these guys really don't mess around. If you've ever tasted Moutai you will know what I mean. Rumour has it that they use this as fuel...

    Diabetics R Us

Tsk! Tsk! This will push your bloods up you know. [emoji37] Seriously, this has nothing to do with the GP who has no time or inclination to bother checking review dates. This is an intransigent administrator (but I bet you can think of a better name). Been there myself and totally sympathize.

    Water Fast and Christmas Past

Day 8 and late on parade having idled away two hours of my day in my lad's jacuzzi. Anyhow, weight is totally unchanged at 68.3 kgs, but I'm not complaining... just wondering. FBG is 4.3 and was 4.4 at bedtime. Ketones are 7.3. Thinking now about refeeding this coming Friday. My thoughts are...

Insulin Index of Yoghurt - Fact or Error

I am not a member of the GI fan club either, but I was intriqued why yoghurt (a frequent standby on my LCHF keto diet should cause an insulin spike. Hence the question...
