    staff shortage

A quick update; I followed all your advice, and my line manager is arranging a meeting with Occupational Health. Meanwhile, my DN has approved me for Libre on prescription. I feel so much more positive than I did this time last week, and though I don't think the staffing situation will change...

    staff shortage

Yes we do, that's a good suggestion. I'll see if I can have a chat with them, thank you

    staff shortage

I don't meet the criteria. It would help though, wouldn't it?

    staff shortage

I could discuss it with my manager, and this is going to sound daft, but it might result in burdening the remaining staff and everyone being under more stress, and resentful to-boot. I might try HR though and see if their duty of care is a figment of the imagination. Thank you for the suggestions.

    staff shortage

That is sad. It's sometimes frustrating to hear people say that diabetes hasn't stopped them doing anything, because for some of us it isn't that simple.

    staff shortage

When I was diagnosed 18 months ago my manager was really understanding, I was told to take time out when I needed to, and my lunch-breaks were fixed to make managing my levels easier. I work in a public building and there were always several staff in on any day, but recently quite a few have...

    needles

Thank you, I will probably have to try them first before I complain but that's good to know.

    needles

I'm afraid I haven't run out of my present ones yet so haven't had to order them. I was also wondering what I was in for.

    needles

Does anyone use GlucoRx Carepoint needles? The surgery has just changed my prescription to these, presumably because they are the cheapest they can find. It's a bit annoying as my DN had changed my needle prescription 6 months ago to Omnican fine, which don't hurt at all like the Microdot ones...

Hair Loss & Thinning? Is it linked to Diabetes diagnosis?

I was losing a lot of hair when I was diagnosed last year, I think it was this more than the unexplained weight lose that took me to the doctors in the end, as being thin without effort was just a bonus. 10 months on and the weight has returned, but the hair is staying put.

    Feelin' Hot, Hot, Hot...

Am I hot because it's 28 degrees outside? Am I hot because I've been rushing about? Am I hot because I'm having a hot flush? (52 and female) Am I hot because I'm Hypo? Am I hot because I'm Hyper...? Basically, I'm always hot. There is very little information about diabetic menopausal women, but...

    Dentist

I haven't been to the dentist for many years due to abject fear, but a broken tooth got me there yesterday and now I need some work done. How is the stress likely to affect my glucose levels on the day? I'm also worried if I can't eat for several hours and my levels drop.

Had a heart attack? What symptoms did you have?

I've just had an angiogram because other tests were irregular and the doctor asked me when my previous heart attack had been. I wasn't aware I'd had one!

    thumbs

The piano and ukulele. Not at the same time. Also the bodhran, but that's not affected by 'strummer's thumb'

    thumbs

Blood sugars are still rather high, but coming down gradually.

    thumbs

I've had cracked skin on my thumb for a couple of months now and it's just not healing. I put it down originally to the cold, but since diagnosis last summer, the constant hand-washing isn't helping. Is diabetes and high BS also likely to be the reason it's not cleared up? Has anyone else had...

    In limbo

My antibody test came back this week at >2,000 u/ml, and along with a high HbA1c I've been re-diagnosed as type 1. Off to the clinic to embrace another new way of life shortly, I was just getting my head around this one!

    up and down

I've never been overweight, I went to the GP initially because of unexplained weight loss. My diet was already healthy so there is little room to improve it, the nurse told me to continue eating what I was. I've only taken gliclizide 30g for 2 days, so it's a little soon to blame for the dip I...

    up and down

I have had 2 fasting BG tests through my GP since being diagnosed of 14.3 and 14.9, 4 weeks apart, and so he has doubled my Metformin from 1000 to 2000 a day and put me on gliclazide 3 days later with a BG monitor. The first measurement with the nurse after lunch was 19.1. One day later, after...
