    Coronovirus deaths & diabetes

No surprise there surely. Detail of T1 vs T2 be helpful, which I hope they can eventually provide (even though not the same “headline”, “newsworthy” stat than announced today).

    Libre GP Prescription Issue

Hi Heather, Yes, now on prescription since April. 26 per year and just agreed with GP for 4 at a time (covering 8 weeks) rather than the initially prescribed 2 (4 weeks) to reduce the number of repeat prescriptions. There’s a review needed after six months but consultant (who I saw on Friday)...

Good news for Libre users, I think

Certainly true where I am - GP just following recommendation from consultant at diabetes centre. Makes sense given they’re the experts though I guess it is then down to their attitude on the benefits of CGMs - mine is very much championing the roll out.

Good news for Libre users, I think

The NHS are making funds available for based on a 20% uptake by region. It does not mean that more than this cannot be provided with Libre on prescription, only that this is all the funding that is being given and so any additional cost would need to be met by local area.

Oh - this is in Ipswich, Suffolk

Good news for Libre users, I think

Yes. Still differences. I went into local Diabetes Centre today, showed been scanning 16 times/day over 90 days on phone app and, hey presto, given new meter and first sensor there and then and told letter with GP now to add to my repeats. It seems to very much to be happening quickly here...

Good news for Libre users, I think

Considering my friend’s letter specifically stated 26 per year I’d like to think this would be standard I guess each CCG may decide themselves on how many. Bought 2 more myself last weekend so hoping they’ll be my last (touch wood) after my assessment on Monday.

Congrats Helen. Hoping to end up with similar letter after my appointment on Monday.

Good news for Libre users, I think

England coming into line more with what is already happening in Scotland and Wales. Scotland having almost 5,000 on prescription in April 2018 (across 10 of 14 territories) while Wales look to have been prescribing for longer. I hear you on the demand issue. Abbott cut down numbers able to buy...

Good news for Libre users, I think

I can’t answer for Gemma but a friend of mine has just had letter to say he can get his on prescription (26 per year) and criteria was the >8 tests per day. Given that he pretty much only now uses the libre sensor that he, like me, has been self funding for 3 years it must have been those...

Note point 8. CCGs may wish to agree to make Flash Glucose Monitoring available to additional groups of patients who are not covered within the national criteria

Good news for Libre users, I think

NHS will ‘fund’ CCGs for 20% of their type 1 population but there’s nothing preventing CCGs from agreeing to pay for more for their area other than how your local CCG prioritises this alongside their other budget constraints.

Good news for Libre users, I think

Hmmm. Interesting. Feel there is still a lot down to how each CCG feels willing to fund and so the interpretation of the criteria. Been self-funding for 3 years and have review brought forward from end of June to 13th May so am hoping to know where I stand but from conversations with consultant...

    Libre GP Prescription Issue

Good luck Heather. Calling Chris next week. From what he’s told you I expect he’ll repeat that to me though I’ll ask why the change from what he told me last week. So may end up having to wait until end of June when see Dr P (end of the month and so after you) unless Chris does something...

    Libre GP Prescription Issue

Oh dear. That’s really bad. I don’t know the name of the consultant chap who was there on Wednesday (at the back near nurse rooms) but he was confident that I would/should get on prescription even though I already have relatively good control and no massive reduction in HbA1c (7.5% to 6.7%)...

    Libre GP Prescription Issue

Hi, I may have been at same meeting as you tonight (Ipswich). Consultant I spoke to at the back was saying that they’re likely to be quite lenient on interpretation of the criteria regarding “...are clinically indicated as requiring intensive monitoring >8 times daily...” which was where I...

Good news for Libre users, I think

Hmmm. I’m more confused than when I started reading these responses. Who is it that will be making the decision come April and on what basis will it be made? Is the “who” my local GP, my diabetic consultant, some unknown person at local CCG or someone else? Is the “what basis” the RMOC criteria...

Good news for Libre users, I think

Jackois - I hear what you’re saying and nice that you can afford to self-fund. Maybe it should be means tested and those that can afford to should pay themselves while those that cannot get on prescription but how do you draw the line given that a big part of it will be how individuals...

Good news for Libre users, I think

Singe - and your friend is about get them on prescription... no improvement for her if she’s not showing any already while the rest of us that do get the most out of them continue to pay - sigh. Some good news though. I’ve just managed to source mine now for £38 rather than £45 after handing in...
