Will I do a lot of damage

Cosy, I agree with swimmer2 in that you need to talk to your GP. I would never stop taking any medication unless specifically told to do so. As swimmer2 says, it sounds like you're taking Metformin which I do too - the SR version. I can sympathise with you when it comes to the unwanted visits to...

Newbie in need of help :(.

I think I'm late to the game as I missed your post  . I prefer three meals a day to be fair :) . Apparently I am way over my BMI - no surprise there :( . I do think the BMI index needs to take into account other factors - not all weight is bad weight. I want to reduce my fat (of course)...

I was never a huge fan of pasta either Defren. I like the lasagna and that's about it...OK, maybe some other dishes ( :D ) but lasagna is the only one I used to have weekly. I don't miss it as the curry (madras) is much tastier and lower in carbs :) . Maybe if the cauli-rice doesn't taste like...

Newbie in need of help :(.

Thanks again Defren :) . I didn't realise that about milk, I like milk :( . Cream sounds a fair alternative. Yes, 'hopefully' the milky coffee put my BG up if you see what I mean. Tell me about shop-bought bread... :!: . The first loaf I tried was Sainsburys Harvest Grain and that was OK...

Newbie in need of help :(.

Hope this is not a stupid question but here goes. I know I should test 2 hours after eating but does this mean drinks as well ? I mean say I had a milky coffee with sweetner would that affect my readings ? This morning I was 8.1 which is the lowest for ages but just now it was 14.5 which is just...

How accurate are home testing kits?

Thanks for the link Sam - better than Amazon. You're so right about the companies falling over themselves to give you free 'stuff' . If it's not batteries it's something else. Yes, it is quite fiddly as you have everything open - it's not a quick discreet test-kit.

How accurate are home testing kits?

That's cheap, I was just about to buy them for £20 from Amazon. Do you mean you get them on prescription ? I mean I could do as well but I thought maybe I could buy them. Also, I can't seem to find the MyLife lancets unless I go to a German site - would any lancet work ? EDIT: just rang MyLife...

Thanks for that Jo :) . I was so shocked I was waiting for the surgery to phone back and say they got it wrong ! I have found a few alternatives to foods. I find the bread the worse thing to change. Sainsburys Harvest Whole Grain is nice but I'm not so keen on the Burgen. I have cut down to...

Newbie in need of help :(.

Just got my blood test results and the glucose reading has come down from 28 to 11.2. I know it's still high but wow, such a good result in comparison. Mind you, the (on-call) doctor said it was nothing to worry about :? . However, they want me to do another test as my blood protein level was...

Grr, don't you just hate it when you type a reply, get logged out in the meantime, then lose your reply ! I have a MyLife Pura X meter. The test strips are £20 on Amazon but I think I can get them on prescription now. Yes I am insulin resistant too :( . I started my low carb diet yesterday so...

Newbie in need of help :(.

Hello Squire Fulwood and xyzzy. Well it's been a really tough day with so much on the horizon, I'm quite discombobulated and I haven't been pe*ing much either which is a worry. It's all too much. Squire Fulwood, yes I will take steps to eat less 'bad stuff' and better good stuff. I like the...

Thanks xyzzy. I take it that's your dog with the shades you take for walkies  . I have a few more questions. How many readings do you take per day and is it from the same hand/finger or do you alternate...and does it have to be from the fingers because that's going to get a bit painful ...

Newbie in need of help :(.

Hello Defren and xyzzy and thanks for your kind replies. Your advice helps a lot and puts my mind (which is about to explode) at ease somewhat. I mean I have had diabetes for many years now but this is the second time in a few years it has reached such levels. The first time I wasn't on any...

Newbie in need of help :(.

Oh dear, 7.8 :( :( . Now that would be heaven at the moment. Mind you, on Friday morning it was 9 which is a whole lot better than 28. I think testing is quite stressful too but I need to know what is going on. I have been on this increase in medication for a week and also I have an abscess...

Newbie in need of help :(.

I'm not sure why really but I don't like raw carrots as much as cooked. I mean raw carrots with a meal sounds a bit yuk :) . Thanks for the advice about the Becks, I feel a bit better now as I could feel myself sinking. I do prefer ale and have tried a few a while ago but stopped. Maybe I'll...

Newbie in need of help :(.

Hi Defren. Wow, I never knew my carbs intake was that bad :( . I suppose I have been kidding myself. Porridge is OK I hope ? As I said in my previous posts I will switch to wholemeal from now on and look into the rice situation as I haven't tried anything but basmati. As far as processed foods...

Thanks Ali, some great advice there. Yes, carbohydrates seem to be way too much. I have cut down to one banana a day but I suppose none a day is best. Plus lowering the amount of potatoes too. Never realised that about carrots. I take your point about a possible hypo as my GP did mention that too.
