    Checking

I bought the Spirit healthcare one, the TEE2. Strips are not too expensive. I am type 2, hba1c was 48 so just into diabetic. I was using meter seven times a day, first thing, first bite and two hours later. It has helped me find which foods spike my blood sugar, and helped me adjust quantities...

Poll: Which diabetes course(s) have you attended?

I am going on the DESMOND one day course, they can't fit me in until August though. I have heard some bad things about the quality of the advice on this course, I don't want the Doc to think I am resistant to change. I may learn something anyway.

    New to me

I was pre-diabetic for five years, now been diagnosed type 2. Lots of knowledgeable people on here will give great advice. Any problems us new pre and diabetics have, these people have dealt with. You came to the right place, I've learned a lot in less than a week.

    Meeting with nurse today

NHS is mad * (mod edit) Diabetics if not at risk of hypocalcemia have to buy there own testing gear. My GP does give a full health check annually though. *moderator edit to remove irrelevant, derailing comment

    From pre-diabetic to type 2

I've learned a lot so far on this forum , nurse just gave me some leaflets. I was told to use Glycemic index for diet, and not to give up any food, just change to low GI, wholemeal bread instead of white and similar. Why are GP practices giving out of date and unhelpful advice? I've upped my...

    From pre-diabetic to type 2

I'm 61 and always relied on my Doctors advice, no other choice when I was younger, no internet. Yeah I am dropping most of the carbs, but I am only 48 on the blood test so I am hoping I dont have to give up half my diet. I dont eat a lot of meat, usually have some kind of fish twice a week. Lots...

    From pre-diabetic to type 2

Sorry that doesn't make sense. Atorvastatin caused my bad cholesterol to drop a lot. But side effect is my blood sugar shot up, it says in leaflet Statin causes blood sugar rise in 1 in 10 people.

    From pre-diabetic to type 2

Yeah I just usually ask bad figure. They changed my statin to Atorvastatin a few months ago which made numbers drop. Trouble is they cause raised blood sugar in 1 in 10 people. I think this why my numbers went up. It's a bit worrying 'cause I've got two diseases which cause poor circulation.
