Changed to a plant based diet

Thank you @bulkbiker - I’ll have a look at that. My genes, and my complete inability to show any kind of self control around food has made me diabetic. and I was thinking about this last night, and I asked myself if going carnivore meant that I would get better diabetic control and live 10...

Changed to a plant based diet

Hi @bobduff I’ve been veggie for 30+ years, and I really feel the need to go vegan for moral reasons. How did you find cutting out dairy and eggs? Milk I’m fine with - the soya alternatives are great. But I really struggle to find decent cheese substitutes (and I love my cheese), and I can’t...

    VLCD success so far

Thank you @Pipp - you’re dead right, I do need a follow on plan, or I will just slip back into my old ways. Again. I’m not sure what that is going to be yet, but maybe some form of intermittent fasting, and low carb something. I’m vegetarian and I try not to eat eggs or dairy if I can. So...

    VLCD success so far

I posted a few weeks ago about having a sudden increase in blood sugars, and not wanting to do low carb, high fat. Had a chat with my lovely GP, who first suggested gastric bypass (I can’t do that, I’m way too scared), so we decided I would do VLCD instead in combination with semaglutide...

Anyone still working or been called back to work recently?

I’m a research midwife. I’ve been working at the hospital throughout this. On COVID studies. Been very interesting, and the car park has been empty! I’ve noticed it all getting busier recently though.

    Blood sugars suddenly awful

My cholesterol is a bit (actually a lot) high, so I don't really want the added fats. But I'm more than willing to be proved wrong on that! Have other people with high cholesterol tried the high fat thing and not found that it made it worse. I did try it when I was first diagnosed (and had a...

    Blood sugars suddenly awful

Thank you. I will mention LADA when I speak to them. Or when we are done with all this and things get a bit more back to normal.

    Blood sugars suddenly awful

I did think it might be stress, but I don't really feel all that stressed outwardly (but I probably am, I'm just in denial!), and I wouldn't have thought it would make such a massive difference. But as I can't think of anything else, I think that probably is the most likely option.

    Blood sugars suddenly awful

Hi, I haven't been around for a while, but I've been pootling along on Metformin 500mg TDS and gliclazide 80mg OD, and all was good. Occasional reading of 10-12 if i ate something particularly naughty, but generally OK. Now suddenly, I've got fasting readings of about 16-19, and post meals of...

    Struggling with food

Thank you. My BMI is 38, so yes, lots of excess weight to lose! GP did warn me I might not need Gliclazide if I was doing VLCD, but he’s quite ‘hands off’ and is usually happy for me to mess around with meds until I find what works. Which admittedly may not always be the best strategy, but I...

    Struggling with food

Sorry, just realised the following might be helpful: 43y, female Type 2 diabetes - metformin 500mg 3 times a day And Gliclazide 80mg once a day Acne rosacea - erythromycin 250mg twice a day Migraine - propranolol 40mg twice a day Omeprazole 20mg twice a day (Yes, I am slowly falling to...

    Struggling with food

Hi all, It’s been 2-3 weeks since my type 2 diagnosis, and I’m struggling. Ideally I’m trying to do the Newcastle diet, but at the moment, I’m being a bit pathetic, and can’t stick to it. Mainly because I’m starving, and I lack any kind of willpower at all, even though I’ve done it really...

    Baked Tofu Bites

I never considered making my own tofu. But I think I’ll have a go - thanks for the link.

    intolerance to metformin

I hate metformin. Had I when I had gestational diabetes, and now back on it again. I also take erythromycin for acne rosacea. Both give me stomach cramps and diarrhoea. So both of them together is just a barrel of laughs! Not really sure what the solution is sadly.

T2 and Non Alcoholic Fatty Liver (present or past) disease?

I have a type 2, and non alcoholic fatty liver. However I would rather chew my own arm off than give anything to the Daily Mail.

    Starting glicazide

I take one a day too, newly diagnosed a couple of weeks ago. Not had a hypo yet, and not sure I’d recognise it if I did!

    Baked Tofu Bites

They sound fantastic. I must give them a go. @WuTwo can I ask what tofu you usually use? I can get hold of the Cauldron one most easily, but I find I have to press it forever to get it to anything like a firm texture. Any recommendations for good brands to look for?

    Good evening - new here

Thank you - to be honest, it was your posts that made me think about the low carb high fat thing! And I probably remember your posts because of the stunning picture. :) I suppose I’m a moral/habitual veggie. Went veggie when I was 13 because of the nice fluffy animals, and that was 30 years...

    Good evening - new here

Good evening everyone. I’m new here, and officially diagnosed as type 2 today. With a HbA1C of 96 and a random glucose of 14.5 Morning BM today was 12.2 which I’m horrified at. Pre meal just now was 8.4 I’m very, very annoyed with myself. I had gestational diabetes 9 and 12 years ago, so I...
