Finally ready to change- help me get started.

Oh yes, taste changes without a doubt. I now eat Lindt 90% chocolate (only 2 squares at a time!) which I couldn't have even looked at before, never mind eaten. Many other changes too, for the better. I have even got used to coffee without sugar, in fact I sipped one by mistake yesterday with...

Finally ready to change- help me get started.

Hi! I succeeded with low carbing, although I wasn't as high as you are. Cutting out bread, rice and pasta (as well as the sugary stuff - biscuits and cakes!) makes a hell of a difference, and there are plenty of alternatives. You can eat a lot of protein, meats, eggs etc, which hopefully...

    Yaaaay!!!!!!

Thanks - all the advice here helps so much, you helped me a couple of months ago, thank you again! Not sure about the weight gain (10 pounds - eek) but its not an easy time of year to manage that really. I'll see what happens in spring when I can be more active.

    Yaaaay!!!!!!

Well done - keep it up and you will hopefully achieve non diabetic levels. I've just had my third 5.5% in a row, feeling rather smug about it, all on diet alone although I have put some weight back on, unfortunately.

    SKIN TAGS AND INSULIN RESISTANCE

Interesting, as I have a good few around the old bod. I had some removed 10-12 years ago by freezing, no problem, but some came back, some didn't. Others in my armpits weren't done at the time, I can't remember why now, but are becoming a nuisance. I was only diagnosed T2 2 years ago, which I...

A little help with test results please!

Yeah, I know where you're coming from. Of course we were told rice and pasta was a healthy diet! Take care, you'll get there.

A little help with test results please!

It was a little scary at 60 too.....but as you learn about it, and how to manage it, it becomes more normal. Just watch the carbs!

A little help with test results please!

Congratulations! Enjoy Edward, they never cease to amaze. Somehow my daughter is 32, no idea where that went! I also have dawn readings in the same range as you are seeing on your Libre, and at almost 2 years on, with A1C's constantly around 37, they are still the same. No change at all...

    Feeling awful

It's not easy, but it's worth persevering with in the hope it can get your BG under control. I wish you luck, with the liver too. **** disease..... :-(

    Feeling awful

I too found I felt pretty grim when cutting down a lot on carbs, but it does pass after a few weeks - you just have to bear with it while your body re-adjusts to it. My diabetes was diagnosed due to other investigations into lethargy (iron deficiency mostly) so I already didn't feel well, and...

Thank you Jo, I'm off to investigate!

    New and Struggling

Jo, do you have any references for the carbs causing inflammation? As an arthritic I am interested to read about it if at all possible! Thanks, Neil

    Scared

Absolutely agree with the comments above - testing is the number one route to understanding our condition, and the diet needed to control it. I went through all this a year ago, and this forum educated and guided me to wellness, no drugs, nothing except a low-ish carbohydrate diet. HBA1c now...

    Is this RH?

I'm OK with dairy, and now have full fat 4 star blue cap (local on the island - it's good) milk as we have decided the vitamins are preferable to have, which are not present in semi or skimmed, as well as the fat content for me. Berries - ugh. No way. Hate them I'm afraid, too bitter. I have...

    Is this RH?

I'm a Director and technical manager of an e-retail business and am very, very busy. I cannot think straight if I don't eat at breakfast time, and am already getting up at the crack of dawn to cope with things, especially at the moment. Our very survival is dubious, hence the hassles. Fasting...

    Is this RH?

ave you ever recorded a hypo, under 3.5? Even though you do get hypo symptoms above hypo levels, this could be a normal reading for you. Yes, 3.4 several times. What are your fasting levels before breakfast? In the first post - 6.4 or around that. say 6 -7 as a range. What is your last...

    Is this RH?

Waking BG, 6.4 Bowl of shredded wheat. 1 hr afterwards, 11.0 2 hrs afterwards, 7.4 3 hrs afterwards, 3.6 Hypo symptoms. If I wait, my BG recovers to 5 by hour 4, but I feel shaky, ill and get the brain fog for that hour. So is this RH? Or just a bit of poor control after eating carbs? I...

    I just need help!

Indeed, the low carb approach helped me reduce A1c from 51 to 36 with no meds at all. Just follow advice on this forum, cut out potatoes, pasta and rice basically and of course cakes and sweet things. You don't have to go bonkers with it, just be thoughtful to cut out the obvious things, eat...

T2 and Erectile Dysfunction - Metformin, sulfonylurea, diet, testosterone

Seeing my (new) GP tomorrow, so we'll see. My previous GP would only prescribe Viagra, at the time saying Cialis was 'for diabetics' - I didn't know then, nor did he, that I was indeed diabetic! I don't use any sugar and alcohol is maybe three units a week - so not likely an issue. I have...

Which Blood tests are accurate at showing diabetes reversal

You You really, really need to read Dr Jason Fung's book 'The Diabetes Code' which explains the different genetic makeup of people and diabetes - it is fascinating. It will put you on the straight and narrow! Knowledge is power, in this case power over T2 diabetes.
