    Urgent BMs

Hi there @Ulebrun . That is very unpleasant for you. Is this a recent thing or has it been going on for sometime ? Could it be related to any medications or something you are eating with those trigger drinks. How quickly do you feel the need to go, is it minutes, hours ? And is it just...

    Type 2

Congratulations on bringing down your blood sugars from 110 down to 31. That is awesome @Dev1942 . As @grantg states this site is very supportive. When you are part of a community with all the same pressures and challenges it can be very inspiring in keeping you on track. Once again well done.

Discussion of low carb diets and cholesterol

I don't follow a low carb diet, I use exercise , and a lot of it, to control my blood sugars. I have to say that my Dr's clinic here in BC , Canada recommends a low carb diet to control blood sugars. So it may have been a fringe diet a decade or so ago, but it's now no longer fringe.

    Diabetes discussion

DKA means Diabetic ketoacidosis . Signs and symptoms of DKA are nausea / vomiting, abdominal pain , laboured breathing and confusion. It is life threatening. If no one can take you call 999.

    Diabetes discussion

Hi and welcome to the forum @Blester . Are you in the UK ? Do you mean 140 mmol/Ls ? If you do those numbers are very high. If you are feeling nauseated with high blood sugars get yourself to hospital and get checked out. I'm not wishing to frighten you but high blood sugars with nausea may mean...

    Weight loss

A lot of T2 members here choose to seriously decrease their carb intake. I'm not particularly knowledgeable on diets, but I'll tag a couple of members for you @Kenny and @ianf0ster . You may also want to check out the Success Stories...

high blood glucose still! does it take time?

I recall my parents using talk liberally after we had a bath. I know it has now been found to be dangerous if inhaled. I was unsure if it is questionable when digested. I found this Canadian government information paper . It is quite informative. It seems it is found in a number of health...

Hi and welcome to the forum @Beatz We do have members on Metformin so I'm sure they will jump in with comments. So feel free to ask questions. I'm just going to ask you a few extra questions to clarify, so bear with me. When you say your insulin production has declined , how do you know this...

How open are you about your T2 diabetes?

Thanks for the post @Lupf . I am quite open about my diabetes. I'm thin and athletic so everyone assumes I'm a T1. Which is daft really as T1's come in all shapes and sizes. I find a lot of people have bought into the 'it must be your lifestyle ' discussions in the media. I just tell them I do...

drink alternative to non-sugary bread, i.e. complex carb drink

You are quite right @Westley. I was trying to simplify so thanks. White rice sends my own blood sugars up very quickly. I made full use of complex carbs when I was running competitively .

drink alternative to non-sugary bread, i.e. complex carb drink

@Veri yes, complex carbs take longer to digest, therefore the glucose released will enter the bloodstream more slowly. Wild rice would be a complex carb, whole wheat foods, 'healthy' foods (from whole food stores) generally use complex carbs . Watch out for the sugar. Although all carbs...
