What have you eaten today? (Low carb forum)

I would never have thought of combining coconut and cabbage. As you make this dish it must work - I'll have to try it.

We've bought parsley already growing in a pot (the flat leaf variety) and it does ok for a while but doesn't really seem to thrive. The same with thyme. Basil does the best for us. We currently have what looks like a basil forest in a pot. It's been growing like crazy since the spring. @Bex72...

I don't normally eat them but I'd bought them for Alastair and I just saw them in the cupboard and went wild whilst watching Only Connect. :D

My surgery said that for those under 65 (which includes me) but who still need to have the flu jab (also includes me) they will be doing them from mid October, the same as where you are. I hope you continue to feel better and your cold, or whatever it is, fizzles out. Yesterday started well...

I did manage to resist the shortbread. This afternoon I had another coffee and some Doux de Montagne cheese with a Ryvita crackerbread. For supper I was lazy and we had a Waitrose slow-cooked brisket that came in a vacuum sealed plastic pouch that you opened and then put the meat in a foil tray...

It's cold and breezy here today too. I went out just before 8 and it really felt quite nippy. The car said it was 11.5 but in the wind it definitely felt colder. We had some smoked salmon for lunch and I didn't feel I could have it without some brown bread and butter, but managed to limit...

Thanks. I just had a quick look at their website and see that they quote 'effective carbs' which they define as carbs less polyols. Is that a reasonable thing to do - I don't know much about polyols? I did look them up and saw that can cause gut issues (bloating, gas, diarrhoea etc.) Has anyone...

I just weakened and had a digestive. :arghh: Oh well, 9.2 g of carbs and I've still only had 65g today so could have been worse. I really dislike sprouts so unfortunately I shan't be trying this dish. The blue cheese and bacon combo sounds nice though. I would have it with some chicory and...

I remember Clarnico mint creams but not iced caramels. As we're reminiscing about confectionery, do you remember New Berry Fruits? My grandmother used to love those. You can still buy them but they have changed the design of the packaging unfortunately. This is how I remember them. Why change...

You should have said they were made to an old family recipe, handed down from your Chinese great, great grandmother who came to the UK in the 19th century and you have been sworn to secrecy as to its details. :)

I occasionally have a home delivery (mainly if I need bulky or heavy items and I've got one coming on Sunday which is mainly loo and kitchen rolls and canned drinks) but in the main I go out to the shops as it gets me out and I get to see and speak to people. I shop largely at the Little...

I don't recall BHS selling food. My mother bought cheese at a shop that had several branches but they were only a local business. They also sold cheshire and wensleydale cheeses. I remember in M&S they didn't sell pre-packed fruit, you went to a counter and were served by someone. A neighbour...

@Annb I'm pleased you've now got it over and done with. I've had it done in the past, and a Barium enema as well, which also requires Picolax before hand, so I know what's it like. Enjoy your bacon and chaffle (I must look up what that is.) Edit: I have now seen what chaffles are - they look good.

That nearly made me laugh out loud. I look back very fondly on my mother's cooking as she always made delicious meals. In retrospect though, she did rather overcook some things. Vegetables were pressure cooked for 20 minutes and liver cooked in the oven for half an hour, for example. We didn't...

What have you eaten today? (Low carb forum)

Same here. I remember my aunt saying that when my mother was a girl people used to say that she was 'like a yard o' tap watter' (has to be said in a Yorkshire accent :)). She certainly wasn't like that by the time I came on the scene!
