    Advice, please.

Hi Gary, HistorIcally never enjoyed weights, always been a runner who reluctantly did a few weights! When I was diagnosed as prediabetic it was during Covid lockdown and that meant I did no real weights at all as gym was shut, which was a big factor in the loss of muscle. Now going 3-4 times...

    Advice, please.

Hi Gary, You sound like a similar profile to me when I crept into the prediabetes zone 3 years ago - slim, keen runner, sweet tooth. Unfortunately the 1st two bits don’t give you a free pass from diabetes, something I didn’t fully grasp at the time. Similar to you also I had quite sharp spikes...

    Prediabetes cured??

Sorry yes not explained myself well at all, no pancreas damage was referring to insulin resistance & pancreas thus producing more to compensate. Querying if that has now fully reversed due to being low carb for 3 years and only just putting a foot into the prediabetes range. It was just the one...

    Prediabetes cured??

Hi, Background - diagnosed in September 2020 with prediabetes after putting on half a stone during Covid lockdown. HBA1C of 43. Went low carb circa 50g a day of carbs, lost over 2 stone in 6 months, reduced A1C down to 37. Remained low carb ever since with steady annual A1C of 38 last 2 years...

    Disastrous results

Quick update on progress, latest results have shown a big improvement in numbers. Diet largely unchanged over past 18 months, still low carb circa 50-80g per day, introduced a bit more fibre as constipation a long term challenge (genetic issue, predating diet), been slightly more flexible on the...

Just Diagnosed Pre Diabetic, What Now?

My view, you just need to make a few tweaks not wholesale revolutionary changes. If you like nuts increase those & get rid of the dried fruit. Scrap the weetabix for breakfast, there’s little of value in it & replace with Greek yoghurt & a few berries instead or perhaps an egg if you like those...

    Thoughts on Pre Diabetes

That’s amazing well done! Are you still losing weight or weight stable now?

    Weight & Prediabetes

Thanks, yes generally I’m very vigilant on diet, despite pressure from family/friends to take a less hardline stance & indulge in more treats. Mother in law even bought me a chocolate bar once as she was convinced I wasn’t eating enough despite my weight being unchanged for over a year! Told her...

    Weight & Prediabetes

Yes still eating same stuff, just worries me when I do things like go on holiday and indulge in the odd treat I wouldn’t normally allow myself back home. How many are too many? Dunno. Hoped changes in weight would be a solid clue if I am going too far with occasional treats?

I need 3000 calories per day

Was prediabetic rather than diabetic but like you rapidly lost weight when I went low carb & struggled to get sufficient calories to provide energy for regular exercise & stop weight loss. I slid from 13 stone to 10 stone 4lb in around 6 months! Since then stayed at same weight for nearly 2...

    Weight & Prediabetes

Hi, I’m 2 years into my battle with prediabetes, originally diagnosed in Sept 20 with Hba1c of 43. I was on the high side of normal weight but BMI was only 25 & I exercised regularly but overindulged in high carb foods unfortunately. Went low carb immediately & have kept to diet pretty well...

    Not told about Diabetes

Think you’re right to look to move GP’s, yours sounds absolutely appalling, hope things improve for you and your husband going forwards. Diet wise others have pretty much covered this off, I’ve been low carb for a year now & my diet now includes lots of fish, omelettes, Greek yoghurt & nuts...

    Disastrous results

Thanks bulkbiker, yes pleased with the trig/HDL score in particular, going to treat myself to steak & bernaise sauce tonight to celebrate! Thanks everyone for all the wise words back in March, telling me not to panic over one set of slightly iffy results, some learning for me there that the...

    Disastrous results

Latest test results today! Looks a lot better I think than 5 months ago, cholesterol back to historic levels. Only downside was loss of muscle mass, but I knew that already & already working on that now gyms are open again. So looks like the low carb diet has worked for me, guess just got to...

Diagnosed with prediabetes level 45 today

For breakfast I’ve replaced breakfast cereals with low carb coconut porridge from Seriously Low Carb, to which I add some nuts, berries & Greek yoghurt. A couple of days a week I have an omelette or mackerel/kippers with eggs, tomato & mushrooms. No red meat involved.

    Prediabetic.

You may want to check out the Abbott Libre David, it’s simple to use & gives you continuous measurement of blood sugar which you can get via your mobile phone. No need for daily finger pricking, and get a clear idea of your blood sugar movements day & night. I used it when I was diagnosed with...

    Am I prediabetic

Hi Julie, If you want a bit more evidence to confirm one way or another before confronting your GP again, you may want to order yourself a Hba1c test online, Goonergal sent me this link a few weeks ago, apparently the results are pretty accurate. https://monitormyhealth.org.uk/

Very confused whether or not I’m prediabetic

Wasn’t aware you could get an Hba1c test off the shelf so to speak, is it more reliable than the one I got from the Abbott Libre, which was miles out sadly? The test I referenced also checks cholesterol/lipids, blood pressure etc, so more an all round MOT, sorry should’ve pointed that bit out.

Very confused whether or not I’m prediabetic

You’re probably not PD based on your age & weight profile but get an Hba1c to confirm. If you can’t get one from your GP, you could always get one done privately, for between £150-£200 from BUPA or another provider. Might be worth the cost if you’re stressing about it & want a trip to Italy...
