    Difficulty with Doctor

As with everything - there are lies, **** lies and statistics - accuracy is all about how its measured and there is very little in it between the 2 CGMs in the real world I find Dex One+ to be more reliable than L2 (as ditched it before the 2+ came out) but not wildly different - BUT they stay...

Freestyle Libre Sensor 2 app- Shut down

I find the 10 days more accurate as healing time is less round the sensor probe. I also find the Dex 1s stick better and I don't need additional patches to hold them on like I did on Libres.

    Difficulty with Doctor

True for any CGM - they measure interstitial fluid - if you're dehydrated the readings can be skewed as the glucose in the fluid is concentrated.

Type 1 diabetics, have you ever experienced this?

Hi @kevinmartinuk_ - may have missed this in your write up - what insulin are you using? Om MDI i had huge issues after many years injecting into the same places on my legs (should have been using 10-15 units of Novorapid, was injecting 80-90 (its would have killed a horse if it had absorbed...

Fully Closed Loop - First commercial system announced

If you're happy - stick with what you like and is best for you. It's a lot of work to transfer from one regime to another - the stuff I do would be daunting to try and start for a new T1 - but the benefits I have are worth it for me. It also helps I'm an IT hacker - I used to be diabetes risk...

Fully Closed Loop - First commercial system announced

See announcement below. While this will still need FDA and UK approval, it shows that pump manufacturers are progressing to a 'hands-off' (ok semi hands off) artificial pancreas. I imagine the other HCL Loop companies will be following suit soon with their own announcments. That's a good step...

Eledon - an insulin injection free life?

Yes - its less invasive (fewer side effects) but couldn't be rolled out as a cure - but does show more promise than the 4 decades old solution @Jaylee remembers (though very similar lines). Ultimately its interesting but unlikely to be a cure all for us - for a good bit of time and development...

Eledon - an insulin injection free life?

A step forward potentially, but not a cure. https://www.diabettech.com/100-insulin-independence-why-eledons-breakthrough-is-a-pillar-not-a-cure/

    Type 1 with Hba1c of 71 - will I be offered a pump

Looks like the eligibility tool (and the post on here referring to it) doesn't work any more. NHS guidelines here: https://www.diabetes.org.uk/about-diabetes/looking-after-diabetes/technology/insulin-pumps/can-i-get-insulin-pumps-on-the-nhs

Has anyone ever experimented with Tresiba in this way? (Not medically reccomended or advisable)

As @Antje77 says - sounds reasonable. Was once advised (in the 90s I think) by a consultant there are no rules to T1, only guidelines. We have to experiment (carefully) to find what works for us. Also keep an eye on it from time to time - insulin requirements change due to lots of factors...

    GP now knows

Very few GPs have more than a passing knowledge of T1 and the gadgets we now have. Occasionally I get asked about what I do, and why - they usually understand the high level and ask more details questions, but rarely understand the low level stuff. I usually hope they don't challenge me as it...

    Scared of 'Lantus Low'

You'll be injecting into subcutaneous fat under the skin layer - odds of hitting anything is incredibly low, even if you did you'd go through it into the fat (just end up with a bruise). In 45 years of injecting I hit a capillary once - didn't make any difference to the insulin absorption.

    Type 1 with Hba1c of 71 - will I be offered a pump

Age shouldn't count against you. you should be eligible (or not) based on criteria that applies to all of us. Have a look at the eligibility tool: https://www.diabetes.co.uk/forum/threads/insulin-pump-eligibility-tool.86471/

    Long working short-acting insulin

Do you know why they recommend jelly babies. In the 80s they researched which sweets could be used by T1 children for hypo treatment. They didn't recommend more than one. And thats 40 years ago - there are better foods available now - ho hum..

    Insulin to carb ratio

Its a game changer - the leap forward is not simple (more tech to learn) but the improvement in quality of life is amazing (and they are not difficult to get along with - I actually found them less intrusive than injecting in public etc) Worth considering as the benefits are huge if you put the...

When I was a lad it was a long while ago

When I was diagnosed (1973) my mum and dad asked the nurses "If he can't have sweets, what can we give him?" Answer was "cheese" About 20 years of newly diagnosed T1s were told that in the 70s and 80s - that made a heck of a lot of diabetic cheese addicts - for those of us 'of a certain age'...

    Diabetes has ruined my life

I'm the same as you - so many promises of a cure (in the press etc) over the years and nothing turned up 'yet' - there is some promising research but I'm not holding my breath - just use the tech I have to the best I can and make it as safe as possible. Love where I am now - hopefully 'better'...

    Diabetes has ruined my life

Been in the club 52+ years now. Got very scared a few times, and thought - stuff this, I'm on my own looking after it, I may as well see what I can do (otherwise its gonna finish me) Went on a pump - better but no where near fixed. Self funded CGM - better, but needed alarms when I slept. Got...

Yes...and my first job was with a brewery - don't know if those events were connected though

When I was a lad it was a long while ago

I remember Marstons 'Low C' - I think they advertised it as a low carb beer (carbs turned to alcohol). My dad used to buy this for me in the local pub when I was a teenager. On a Wednesday my mum worked - so we went to the local pub (near where my dad worked) and played pool - had a 2 low C's...
