    Chocolate Rant!

You're falling into the trap that diabetics cant eat chocolate. Are you type 2? If not, and you're type 1 like me, just eat a bar and dose for it and see what happens! Depending on the brand and type of chocolate, I think you might be surprised. Saying that, I do have a few too many hypos and I...

I smoke, drink and eat chocolate - bite me!!

It's worth emphasizing though that there are some people like me, and who has with type 1 diabetes, who can eat virtually as much chocolate as they like and not suffer high blood sugars or cholesterol or be overweight. In fact, I actually have very good sugar levels, maintain a consistently good...

    Anybody having seasonal changes?

Hi everyone. Over the past week or two I've been gradually reducing my basal rates and my bolus calculations/rate. Previously, in late June, I had increased my basal and bolus rates so I'm wondering if this has anything to do with the seasons, ie beginning and end of summer? I was taking about...

I smoke, drink and eat chocolate - bite me!!

Why does everyone make a big deal about chocolate? I eat MULTIPLE bars EVERY day and I'm not affected by high blood sugars at all. I also have very GOOD cholesterol. I've occasionally been hit by high bs when I've eaten choc during the day so perhaps it's safer for me to eat at night. I also...

    Bad insulin vial

Well, I've had an update from Novo Nordisk. It sounds like they did thorough tests and it came back all clear on the unopened vials that I sent them. Of course, I've since found out that some of my medtronic reservoirs were leaking so that could have been the problem all along but I'm still not...

    Medtronic pump active insulin time?

Thanks for the reply Brett. I've just found out the answer. Medtronic and Animas are supposed to use a 'curvilinear' graph whereas the Omnipod and Cozmo use a 'linear' graph. In the words of another pump user (on the net), 'The formula generated is an approximation since the pump companies keep...

    Medtronic pump active insulin time?

Ok, today at 1.30pm I bolussed 6.5 units with no active insulin at the time. Checked at 2 hours and it was slightly under 3.2 which I thought was about right. Then at the 3 hour mark it was definitely showing under 1.2 units. 1.2 X 4 = 4.8 units so that's about 1.7 units unaccounted for! Does...

    Medtronic pump active insulin time?

Just to add, when I was looking at the insulin time I did take into account the time it takes for the bolus to finish being delivered - and it didn't make sense either with the time I bolused or the time it finished.

    Medtronic pump active insulin time?

Hi everybody, hope you're enjoying the summer at long last. I'm using a medtronic 754 insulin pump. The other day I bolused for a meal - about 4 units I think - and I had no active insulin (showing on the pump) at the time. I've got my active insulin time set to 4 hours (novorapid) and three...

Pump session - new meter and stuff

Don't worry putting up the photo, they often don't provide all the necessary information anyway. I think I'll follow the technique anyway.

    Alternatives to weetabix??

You could try Kellog's All Bran, it's quite high in carbs but is low-mid GI in my experience, especially with semi- or full-fat milk. Of course, you should always carb-count as well.

    Bad insulin vial

Hi, I have to say that I've been using novorapid for over 6 years, mostly pens, and this is the first time I've definitely had a problem so it's very rare in my limited experience. Faulty insulin was the last answer I considered, after first trying different body sites and cannulas (and...

    Bad insulin vial

That's exactly how most people react Snufflebabe. I am even nearer to being 100% sure because I've eliminated the cannula sets and sites as possible problems. Apart from the insulin, the only other possible answer could be the reservoirs, but that seems very unlikely to me. I won't say I'm 100%...

    Bad insulin vial

(Previously I posted under 'chrisopher'). I am still 99 percent sure there is a problem with the insulin. The new vial I put in worked initially and then, after about a day, my bad blood sugar levels returned. I then went on to a completely new supply of Novorapid pens and I haven't had a blood...

    pump insurance?

Ok don't all chip in at once! After a little research and thinking about my own use, I've decided that insuring the pump wouldn't be worth it. I could pay my home insurance a little extra to insure a valuable over £2500 but I've decided that the manufacturer guarantee would cover most problems I...

    pump insurance?

Hi, is everyone talking about insuring their NHS pumps? I ask this because when I was given a pump on the NHS the nurse said that insuring the pump was a 'grey' area because the pump actually belongs to the NHS but is merely 'used' by us diabetics. Is this true? Don't insurers normally ask...

How much carb to raise blood sugar hypo and non hypo?

Thanks for all those answers. I should have probably said that, for me, the 100 rule (and similar) doesn't really work for me. Lucypiee's answer sounds most relevant for me, though 1 unit only lowers BG by 1.5-2 mmol for me. Cheers everyone and I hope diabetes control is going well for everyone. :D

How much carb to raise blood sugar hypo and non hypo?

Hi everybody. I've always wondered if the amount of carbohydrate need to raise bs by a mmol (for example) is the same if you're having a hypo than if you're not? I know that when the body is having a hypo it will start to use up stored sugar so I guess that effects it. Is it then better to work...
