I'm one of the lucky ones - Less carbs has done it!

Hi folks, Just thought I would share. Diagnosed at Xmas with HbA1c of 56, not high numbers I came to understand however, I knew absolutely less than nothing about T2 until I came to this forum. Not always active on the forum but browse regularly and have learned so much, so thanks to you guys...

    HBA1C results

Well done Maggie! If you're a lover of bread, there are plenty of good recipes out there for low carb to make at home. Made my fist last week and I was well impressed. Waitrose also do a LivLife low cab loaf. I've not tried it though.

Type 2s: What was your fasting blood glucose in a morning? (very low chat level)

6.5 this morning. Highest level for me at anytime since I started monitoring 9 days ago.

    Fat Jab

It's a Sarah Vine article so didn't get past the headline. I get the gist of it however. I wasn't out of shape when diagnosed so for me, it's about keeping discipline. I appreciate that this is is not the same for others so, if there's a better solution for them to control their condition such...

I need help with this, a bit frightened..

Ah, ok. 7.1% gives you 54.1 mmol/mol or 8.7 mmol/L so definitely in the diabetic range. Not overly high however, and definitely achievable to reverse in a relatively short period with carb reduction and a little walking every day. I was 7.3% fit and healthy when diagnosed and declined meds, and...

I need help with this, a bit frightened..

Hi G0ldengirl68, night owl from Scotland here & recently diagnosed so my knowledge is very limited. How long was it between your 4:30 test & eating? Also, I don't think 7.0 mmol/L is within the diabetic range. It needs to be over 7.8 or 48 mmol/mol. 7.0 gives you just over 42 which puts in the...

Type 2 Looking to educate myself!- what causes diabetes type 2 ?

I can go through a long list of relatives and not one has suffered from diabetes of any kind. Type 2 as far as I can tell in the short time since diagnosis, is that it's prominently down to lifestyle (Not all but most) and modern living. That said, I'm fit, healthy, very active, train regularly...

    Coffee again

This would correspond with my levels over the past week since starting to track my BG. Only 2 things have elevated mine to 6.0-6.1 and that's coffee in the morning or a night on the beer. OTR

Not sure what I should be doing.

Sounds much like my diagnosis with a single hba1c test as an addition to routine bloods at a hospital appointment for something else. Practice nurse called & diagnosed T2 right away without hesitation for a result of 56. I started cutting down on carbs 2 weeks ago and got a glucometer last week...

    Seriously low carb

Made my own vital wheat gluten bread that I cam across on Youtube. Very impressed with it. Ingredients: · 1/2 cup of Oat Fiber (41g/1.45oz) · 2/3 cup of Flaxseed Meal (70g/2.46oz) · 1.25 cups of Vital Wheat Gluten (190g/6.7oz) · 1 teaspoon Salt (6g / 0.21oz) ·...

    New meter

HbA1c is 29.1 or 4.8% so very good. Apologies, this is just a converter to show a snapshot and does not represent the actual HbA1c over any specific period. It's just where you are at the time of the test strip.

    Toast substitute

This is all new to me so bought all sorts to try different things. I made one from almond flour the day before this one but the recipe I posted is so much better. Really soft and fluffy and makes a great sandwich as well as great toast. I dropped the yeast & honey into the water, gave it a good...

    Toast substitute

No, it's bread. And very good bread too. The sweetener is to taste depending on what you use. I used 1tsp Stevia/erythritol.

Made this at the end of last week. Got it from Youtube and was very pleasantly surprised. Will definitely make again. All macros are US measures. Ingredients: · 1/2 cup of Oat Fiber (41g/1.45oz) · 2/3 cup of Flaxseed Meal (70g/2.46oz) · 1.25 cups of Vital Wheat Gluten...

    Newbie T2 diagnosis

Thanks Mrs T. I just thought that my numbers were extremely good in just over 1 week after reducing carbs. Particularly days 4 & 5 after alcohol. Not to complain however, I'll take those figures every day of the week.
