    Metformin and alcohol

Hi I’ve recently had a hba1c of 70 which was very unexpected because a year previous it was 45. So I’ve been put on metformin 500x2 a day. I’m very low carbing and my glucose readings are starting to come down. I’ve been on metformin for 3 weeks now. I was invited out for a few drinks...

    Different readings from different monitors

Thanks, it’s just the difference between the two is putting me in an ‘ok’ range with one and not with the other , so it’s pointless taking readings because it’s not giving me a meaningful answer when they differ so vastly. According to one I’m ok, according to the other I’m not. How can anyone...

    Different readings from different monitors

Hi all, Still getting to grips with my readings, they’ve been on the rise despite me maintaining my very low carb high fat diet changes. However the past few days they seem to have been a little lower again. initially I got the Gluco Navi monitor. Then I applied for and received the Contour...

    What’s going on?!

Wow thanks for the advice. I’m glad you finally got the correct diagnosis and therefore able to manage your conditions. It is so very frustrating when years of our lives are spent knowing something isn’t right without being able to get the help we need. I have been tested for gluten...

    What’s going on?!

Ah yes! It is a bit of a giveaway isn’t it Thanks for all the info. Really struggling to get my head round all this. Feels like a horribly restrictive prison sentence I’m faced with. I know that may sound dramatic but that’s how I feel about it at the moment. And not understanding and...

    What’s going on?!

Thanks for replying. Out of interest, how do you know I’m 36?? I do have weight to lose. A few years ago I put on about 3 stone for no apparent reason and have struggled to lose it since. My hba1c has been going up slowly over the past few years although I didn’t know this till my gp told me...

    What’s going on?!

Hi all, I’ve been teTing morning, before and after meals and before bed for a couple of weeks now and there seems to be no pattern whatsoever. Only that my readings seem to be getting a little higher on average. Today after I got up, but before breakfast ( it was a couple of hours before I...

    Monitor with phone app

That’s really useful thanks. Ill have a look, I’ve got an iPhone but there must be apple versions. Do they make it easier to record as I’m using my Notes app and it’s a nightmare to follow, hence why I was hoping for a monitor that has an associated app

    Monitor with phone app

Hi All, I’ve been looking at monitors and think I’d like one that connects to an app on my phone. What with caring for my 21 month old son, partner with severe ADHD (I am his memory) and renovating our house, I’m struggling to keep on top of recording each reading etc. and think an app would...

    Confused about readings

Hi thanks for replying, interesting point re salt and water loss, I hadn't considered this so will worry less about the salt. I hope the bp will come down as a result. Thanks for the info. Still confused by the lower readings after eating though!

    Confused about readings

Hi, sorry for delay in replying. I don't know, although a few years ago I had low blood pressure and the doctor advised to add a little extra salt which helped. When I say salt is a no no, what I mean is, I check my salt intake and am happy with it, adding more I feel wouldn't be a healthy...

    Confused about readings

Hi sorry only just replying I didn't realise you'd responded! I've been testing before and after each meal so getting a pattern to discuss with the doc if I ever get to see one! :-) With regards to salt, I never ate processed foods (apart from bacon and ham), everything was cooked from scratch...

    Confused about readings

I have just started both the regular testing and food diary, as I was diagnosed just a week ago. Hba1c was 50 so not massively high. I’ve got to have it done again next week. Yes these haven’t been carb heavy meals. before breakfast this morning was 6.6.

Newly diagnosed and feeling very alone!

thanks for the encouragement I’m not a massive carb eater anyway, I’ve changed my diet for the last 3 days and finding it pretty easy so far. As long as I’ve got the right food in the fridge I think I’ll be ok.
