    Coping with this miserable existence

Thanks for the advice. If the monitor showed no drop after eating complex carbs - quinoa, sweet potato and wholemeal bread - do I still need to cut them out? My understanding was this impacts everyone differently to some degree, and some can handle a small amount of complex carbs.

    Coping with this miserable existence

i monitored for two weeks when pregnant and found they were fine - including wholemeal bread as long as I had something with it. the extent of the help from the endo was to say to avoid carbs and sugar on their own and that it’s not as bad as diabetes, then sent me on my way. No suggestion of...

    Coping with this miserable existence

thanks for the lengthy reply! I know there are options, my point was more that having to constantly think about what you’re eating and avoid all of the nice food is quite depressing. I would just love to be like a normal person and be able to have a pizza and brownie once in a while with no...

    Coping with this miserable existence

Thanks for your reply. Do you not find curries have sugar in them? I’ve been and avoided carbs and the next day I feel extremely tired, which is what happens when I have carbs / sugar.

Do diet drinks not have an effect on your blood sugar? I’m not even bothered about alcoholic drinks, just anything other than water would be nice.

    Coping with this miserable existence

This is exactly it! I know there are options, but I just want to be able to eat whatever I like like the majority of the population food is one of the only joys in life, and this robs you of most of it. Except for cheese

    Coping with this miserable existence

Thank you. Well done for getting your diabetes into remission! I find eating at home okay, it’s eating out that’s the problem. I know that there are low carb options - like salads - but it’s just miserable not being able to occasionally eat what I would like to like normal people.

    Coping with this miserable existence

I tested for two weeks when pregnant to make sure it didn’t turn into gestational diabetes and complex carbs were fine with me, including wholemeal bread as long as I had something with it, luckily. But I don’t have them too often and do have small portions when I do.

    Coping with this miserable existence

And I have no idea if it does - I don’t have a glucose monitor, I know when I’ve had a piece of cake or something I’ll get symptoms which is just mainly intense fatigue but anything else I don’t get symptoms I just feel constantly tired. Numerous blood tests rule anything else out.

    Coping with this miserable existence

Low carb / sugar diet, I stick to complex carbs. I just want to be able to go out for dinner and eat normal foods without worrying.

    Coping with this miserable existence

Also to add - I met with an endo when I was diagnosed who was little help and basically said it’s nothing to worry about as it’s not diabetes. However I know high levels of insulin can cause health problems - including pancreatic cancer - so I just feel constantly anxious that I’ll end up with...

    Pregnant with non-diabetic reactive hypoglycaemia

Hello everyone, Has anyone been pregnant with this? As I’m currently pregnant and monitored my blood sugar for two weeks at around eight weeks which was all fine, I’ve got to monitor again when I get to 28 weeks to check for gestational diabetes and I’ve been trying to avoid sugar as much as I...

    Non-diabetic reactive hypoglycaemia

Hello everyone, I’m new to this forum ☺️ But not new to non-diabetic reactive hypoglycaemia - I was officially diagnosed in 2018, along with PCOS syndrome (I don’t actually have any cysts now, and my periods have been regular for years but I do have excess facial hair and acne). I’m looking...
