Is it my imagination ... ?

Maybe I'm imagining things, but it seems that when I prick my finger to do a reading, if the blood flows readily into a nice blob then the reading is going to be low to normal. If it's difficult to get enough to wet the test strip, necessitating a re-prick, then the reading is going to be above...

    A question or two

Thank you all for the replies. I think the clue is really that I need a new HbA1C test.

    A question or two

Hi all. Diagnosed in April 2021, with HbA1C of 67 and put on Metformin, 500 twice per day. With hard (and hungry!) work I got that down to 40 by August 2021. Not had another blood test since then. I measure my glucose twice a day with a Tee2, mid-afternoon and a couple of hours after dinner...

    Glucose, non-diabetics

Something I've been wondering is what the glucose readings would or should be for non-diabetics. My own (T2) readings, averaged over 10 months are: Morning : 8.1 Afternoon (about 4pm) : 6.3 Evening (2 hrs after dinner) : 6.5 Gross average, disregarding time of day: 7.05, lowest: 3.8...

    Statins

@Rachox: I'm due another blood test so I'll ask for the lipids etc to be done at that time. @ianpspurs: worms: whyfore? @Resurgam: do you mean it affected your memory?? Mine is bad enough already! I don't want to lose any more. Well so far I've only taken one Atorvastatin, so we'll see if...

    Statins

Hi all. Received a letter from my GP surgery a few days ago which said that new guidelines suggest that all diabetics take a statin to reduce their cholesterol, regardless of their actual cholesterol level. She has presribed Atorvastatin, 20 mg, one to be taken at night. I have no idea what...

    Keto Shake

Hmmm. Interesting comments. I like the idea of pork chops and cream in my frequent coffees. And thanks Jim Lahey. Isn't there a fine balance between fats, eg, pork chops, and our cholesterol?

    Keto Shake

Hi all, I was diagnosed in April with an HbA1C of 67, and immediately went low carb. With good results I think, because in late August my HbA1C was down to 40. Trouble is, I've gone from just under 11 stone down to just under 9 stone, which I attribute to the loss of chocolate, donuts, bread...

    The Dawn Phenomenon

Thanks everybody for your thoughts. I am certain that during that day I was well-behaved, carbs-wise. Afyter a busy day with my grandson I dozed off after dinner and must have slept for maybe an hour. On waking I immediately jumped up and took a reading, and it was 10+. That was the highest...

    The Dawn Phenomenon

We know that glucose levels tend to be highest first thing in the morning due to the morning dump. Yesterday I dozed off soon after dinner, and during two hour delay between dinner and taking a reading. When I did take a reading my level was just over 10, which is way higher than ever before...

    Just Delighted!

Many thanks to all for your kind thoughts and advice. I must say that I thought the nurse's advice to cautiously reintroduce some bread and carbs into my diet was a little odd. I think she was concerned about my weight and was suggesting I might put some back on with a little bulk. However, I...

    Just Delighted!

I was diagnosed about 4 months ago, with an HbA1C of 67, and advidsed to go low-carb straight away, and to start on Metformin. I've been working very hard with the carbs but, oh how I miss the chocolate! I recently had another blood test, and the diabetes nurse just phoned. My HbA1C has...

    ????

I tested recently soon after eating a little orange, an easy peeler. I hadn't washed my hands, and the reading was sky-high, well beyond my usual range. Washed my hands, tried again - back to normal range. So the lesson is, wash and rinse carefully pre-testing.

    Eye tests

I'm in the Newbury area, RG14. I received a letter out of the blue a week or so ago inviting me for an eye test in early August.

I have a question about being thirsty?

I had no symptoms except for a dry mouth - I wouldn't exactly call it thirst. It was that which led me to the doctor's and eventually resulted in my diagnosis of T2, HbA1C of 67. That was 22 April this year. Now, 3 months later I still get the dry mouth, but somewhat less so. Hoping to go...

Type 2 what can I eat

May I just add a comment to Alanboo's list please: I personally don't tolerate potatoes, bread and pasta - they all push up the next morning's glucose readings quite severely. Spuds particularly. As for beverages, I drink the sugar-free versions of Fanta and Irn Bru; both taste wonderfully sweet...

    Not understood!

Hi. I was diagnosed with T2 on 22 April with HbA1C of 67 from a blood test. I was prescribed 2 x 500Mg of Metformin per day, and cut out just about all sugar, starch - carbs in general. I'm 71, and weight has gone down from 10.5 stone to 9 and has stablised there. On 1 May I got myself a...

    Dry mouth persists

Hi. I was diagnosed with type 2 about 2 or 3 weeks ago and put on Metformin 2 x 500 per day. Since then I've cut out sugar, bread, etc, and try to keep low carb as much as possible. I was HbA1C initially at 67. My blood glucose readings range between 5.4 and, just once, 10.2, during the day...
