    how long until remission

Technically I have been in remission for 2 years. But I don’t regard it as remission, just under control. I know that if I went back to my previous lifestyle I would be out of “remission” in about 2 weeks. I did what most here have done, lost weight, low carb (though my daily average is about...

HB1AC Now under better control - what next?

I don’t do anything out of the ordinary. 3 weight sessions per week, I try and focus on compound exercises and no more than 60 minutes. I keep my diet pretty healthy and walk and swim 3 or 4 days a week. Weight training takes time. Start slow and steady and build as you get stronger.

HB1AC Now under better control - what next?

I was diagnosed T2 3 years ago with HbA1c at 111. I got that down really quickly (3 months) to 41 and then 37 and then 35. This was mainly weight loss and low carb. I then relaxed a bit and tested a few carby foods and my next reading came in at 47. That was about the 18 month mark. Since then...

    Diabetes and weight loss

Weight loss certainly helped me get my BG numbers under control. But by far the biggest impact was building muscle. Initially I lost weight and controlled BG with weight loss and low carb - HbA1c went from 97 to 39. Once I started resistance training and building muscle my HbA1c had dropped to...

    Carbs-independent remission

When diagnosed my HbA1c was 93 and I weighed 117kgs. I lost 30kgs 3 years ago and have kept it off. Changed my diet to relatively low carb (I log all my food) and my average daily carb intake over last 3 years is 105 gms. My 3 HbA1c readings since have been 41, 39 and 37. My daily readings...

    Remission

I see some diabetics talk about “remission”. I was diagnosed in March 2021 with HbA1c at 97. After 6 months it was down to 41, then in March this year 36 and just recently 35. So I think by some definitions that is remission? But for me, reality is as soon as I relax my diet my numbers will...

    HBA1C = 40

The single biggest difference I have found is resistance training. I got diagnosed at age 58 with HbA1c at 110. Got that down quickly to 37 with diet and walking but after a while started to struggle to keep under control. Started training with weights at 60 and have added quite a bit of muscle...

How do you manage your diabetes

After my T2 diagnosis (Feb 21) I launched into weight loss, exercise and low carb all worked and got my Hb1Ac down to 37 pretty quick. But my improvement just plateaued and I found carbs gave me significant spikes. Then I started resistance training and really shifted my body composition...

New T2 with reduced levels wanting to reduce medication

I find it interesting what seems be approach in UK versus my experience in Australia. I was diagnosed in Feb 2021 with HbA1c at 97. Doctor told me to lose weight, change diet and come back in 3 months - no drugs. After diagnosis I did some research and called back to doctor to ask if I should be...

    Diagnosis type 2 yesterday

As others have said, everybody reacts differently and you should take the time to work out what foods spike your blood sugar and what you can tolerate. I was diagnosed at HBa1c at 97 in March 2021. My reading in September was 37 and my reading in February this year was 35 and expect lower in...

    HbA1c after 12 months

Diagnosed T2 in April 2021 with HbA1c at 97. Next test in September it was 41 and just got my March results back and is 37. Usual story of lost weight, started exercising and went low carb. No meds. So happy with my progress so far. My fasting BG is still "high", usually between 6 and 7.3...

Thanks Ronancastled for your detailed response, I really appreciate the advice. What is the "pancreas reboot"

    BS Levels

Diagnosed T2 back in March 2021 with Hba1c at 97. Last test in September Hba1c was 41 and due another test next week. I'm not on any meds but I do eat lowish carbs and have shed a lot of weight. Between July and November last year my prick test readings were pretty consistent in the 5.5 - 6.8...

    Journey so far

I was diagnosed T2 in Feb with HbA1c at 97. I lost weight (26kg), started exercising and went lowish carb (average less than 80g per day. No meds. My last hba1c about 2 months ago was 39 so I was pretty happy with that. I do BG testing religiously even though I don’t really need to - I pretty...

FBG going up but all else ok?

I find the best way to avoid the dawn phenomenon is to eat a small snack just before you go to bed. Half a banana works well.

Med Free, how to keep hba1c levels down

As a pasta and rice replacement I use a product called Slendier. It is pasta or rice or noodles made out of Konjac. Virtually no carbs or calories. Not going to lie and say it is as good as the real thing but it does a pretty good job and fills you up.

    Second HbA1c test

Weirdly, in the last week since I saw the doctor my BS readings seem to have gone off a cliff. In the period April to just a week ago I did 600 plus prick tests and generally range was 5.4 to 7 with maybe a few readings above 8. Last week readings have ranged from 3.5 to 5.7?Taking tests same...

    Second HbA1c test

Thanks all. I was pretty happy with the result. But I think I need to research the numbers more. I thought 41 was still high, maybe not diabetic level but pre-diabetic level? Anyway, I’ll continue with the low carb approach. I haven’t found it too burdensome so far.

    Second HbA1c test

So I was diagnosed as Diabetic on 21 April with an HbA1c of 97. I had my second test on 3 October and got results today with my HbA1c dropping to 41 and my fasting glucose was at 5.8 mmol. I have to be happy with that though I thought I was going to be a little bit lower. I asked my doctor if I...

    First 5 months

Thought I would describe my journey so far in the hope it may assist others and also to get any helpful observations. I was told I was type 2 diabetic back in May. At the time my HbA1c was 11.5% and I was on medication for BP and Cholesterol. I had already started on a weight loss program - I...
