One of my friends had gout for years and then I suggested she tried cranberries and it went. Might be worth a try for you. Buy the dried or frozen ones with no added sugar.

    Newly Diagnosed

I was put on insulin when I was rushed into hospital with something completely different, and I was able to come off it once I was out. GP and Diabetic nurse oversaw this - hospital didn't even tell me I was diabetic. So you may have to stay on it or you may not, but either way is do-able under...

What have you eaten today? (Low carb forum)

Yesterday was an Experiment. I had fried fish in batter!!! from the fish & chip shop. Husband had fish & chips. I had intended to have a couple of his chips but actually had no desire for them so didn't. The fish was delicious and the batter very thin. I didn't check BG two hours after first...

Exercise always raises my BG. Some of us are like that. Mine goes down again after about an hour.

Need to vent - *&@# GP surgery messing me about

Outrageous but sadly all too usual. Then after annoying the hell out of you for a prolonged spell, they tell you your blood pressure is high. Leaving us thinking "if I'd done my job like that........".

What was your fasting blood glucose? (full on chat)

The car park cosiness happens to me as well. I can sit in an empty cafe, on an empty bench in an empty park, numerous other situations - and somebody will plonk themselves down next to me. Then they will either start a conversation with me or start yarping on their phone. It particularly happens...

    Socks! Recommendations (for UK shopping)?

Corrymoor socks are brilliant. They are angora but do not itch at all. Made in UK, a family business with their own herd supplying the raw material. They do a soft-top version, which I always use. Very hard wearing, very warm, easy to wash. I wear mine winter and summer.

What do you love to eat?

I found my wanting crisps disappeared when I added more olive oil or butter to my food, along with salt. The health police got it all wrong when they started beating the drum for low-salt, no-salt and low fat. edited for typo

What do you love to eat?

I love my very low carb foods! All fresh meats, occasionally bacon, most fish, seafood, eggs, most cheese, full fat Greek yoghurt, nuts, olive oil, butter, leafy green veggies, avocado, a wide variety of leafy salad veggies, cucumber, leeks or spring onions as a substitute for onion, peppers...

    FASTING

I'm another who only eats when hungry, which on a normal day creates an 18 hour fast, sometimes 24. Sadly I have never been able to stretch beyond that, as I do get hungry at times (some people don't ever). I too choose to have a very low carb. intake, which suits me and my diabetes very well...

    Statins and cholesterol

Same here. I decline statins every year based on my own research of proper scientific peer-reviewed papers in the public domain. It is your decision to make, and you can change it any time. We have quite a few threads on this which might interest you.

    Metformin is making me miserable

I'll let others comment about the metformin, but you may find the bowel issues resolve if you increase healthy fats - olive oil, butter, cream, and the fat that comes with whatever meat you cook. You've done brilliantly with your weight loss and the increase in fats should not affect this...
