    Dafne pump course

Re: Dafne pump course I really enjoyed Dafne too. I got so much from it. BUT the absolutely best thing about it was sitting in a room with people doing the same as me (b.g checks and injections ) and not taking any notice. We were all equals

    Active Insulin Time query

Type 1 would be so much easier to manage if everything about it wasn't so random   Just start to think boluses are right and it all goes out of the window :problem:

    Coming off my pump

Sorry, but BIG moan coming up!!!! I came on D.UK tonight after a set change today left me with a b.g of 33, and feeling very ill. This has happened twice already within the last few days. Yesterday I had highs for over 10 hours, including 1 which was over 33.3mm. I've had 3 ketone readings...

    Active Insulin Time query

I've been on the Animas Vibe for about 8 months and I didn't know about changing the active insulin time. I'd prefer to do this, I find that quite often, I have to add an extra bolus as the pump won't let me have enough insulin. I'm going to check my manual and change the time length, or will...

    Quick note to oneself

Well Danny, it could be worse, they used to advertise a fetching plastic and metal device that fitted over the offending article, then you switched it on and it created a vacuum which blew the old fella up (or something like that!) There are advantages for being female after all

Would you prefer to be on insulin injections or on a pump?

Re: Would you prefer to be on insulin injections or on a pum I've only been on a pump for a few weeks but I'm very stressed by the lack of control I have. I'm still getting high test results, as I can't bolus for high bg unless it's done at mealtime or bedtime. The tubing is much too long for...

    Good old days?

Oh, what fun we had years ago!!! The scalpel for finger pricks hurt sooo much, my fingers would be sore for days! I was very lucky, in that when I was expecting my first baby, the blood glucose meter had been invented, and I borrowed one from the hospital. The very loud beep was so embarrassing...

    Anyone re-used cartridge before?

Too late to make a useful comment, but I re-use my cartridges as I HATE the drug companies 'chuck-away' practices. When I got T1, almost 40 years ago, we used an enormous metal needle over and over. This mentality stuck with me, and I will re-use anything, if it seems safe and healthy to do so!!!!

    downloading pump info with diasend

I've been on the Animas Vibe pump for a couple of weeks now. When I download my info, it takes several minutes and means I miss at least 3 basal 'shots'. Does anyone else have this problem?

    How Times Change!!

The original meters look very high tech compared to the awful enormous glass syringes, which were kept in a blue (I think) plastic 'tube' full of some type of spirit. The needles were as thick as knitting needles (well, maybe not!) and I'm sure they weren't changed often as they were stored in...

Contour battery low symbol, changed batteries, still says low

I hadn't noticed the battery low symbol until yesterday, so no idea ow long they would last. Bayer say 'batteries last a year'! I told them they were discriminating against people who have no hypo awareness. They decided I could have more batteries but because this is going to be a time...

    Is my meter dodgy?

I sometimes feel I might be low, test on my right hand and get a normal reading..maybe around 6, then try my left hand and get a reading of below 4. This is explained away by not washing hands before testing which COULD be true!!!

Whats the most annoying thing people say about diabetes?

The most annoying thing, for me, is the constant 'eating too much fat/sugar/being overweight will cause diabetes' that can be found in magazines, radio, television :***: Therefore; I have type 1, I've had it since I was in my teens, but to the general ignorant public, it's because I eat too...
