First year as a type 1

Bindarry - we all need a certain amount of carbs to live on but our diets are massively carb heavy and refined carbs (white bread, pasta and rice) are what causes high blood sugar (as well as sugar of course!). Try and swap some of his carbs to unrefined or complex carbs (wholemeal bread...

    WHO'S ON STATINS

I went to see my GP today and she said that all type 1s should automatically be put on statins. This is not something that I've heard of before. Is everybody else on them (because they are diabetic rather than have high cholesterol).

NOT QUITE A NEWBEE BUT CONFUSED

Hi there Many thanks for your replies. It's nice to hear that I'm not being unduly paranoid about not being seen. I went to see my GP today. She was not particularly sympathetic but said she would refer me to Kings so that I can begin getting properly looked after. She has also arranged for...

    Why does lantus sting

I read somewhere that Lantus stings as it is acid based. Also, as tou re hving to inject quite a big amount, try just pressing a few clicks in then pausing before doing the next few clicks. May make a difference as youre trying to push liquid into a space where there is no room for it!!!

NOT QUITE A NEWBEE BUT CONFUSED

I think they must have forgotten about me :(. Good job I'm not the sort who goes into denial eh?! Will speak to my GP about being referred to Kings. Not happy with the service I have received locally. The DSN laughed when I asked what my Hba1c was and told me it wasnt something I should be...

First year as a type 1

Oh definately looking after myself, dont worry. BS consistant and carbs kept to a minimum. I know the rules and abide by them. Think I'll ask my GP to refer me to Kings as not too far for me to get to and hopefully where the specialists are.

1st diabetic holiday - advice needed

Dont worry too much about airline. I take a letter from my DIabetes Clinc detailing my prescription but have never been asked about the needles in my bag. Just put injection pens in clear bag like you do with makeup as it is a liquid. More important is that you keep your insulin cool. Mine...

First year as a type 1

Hi Kev. How spooky I've just hit my first anniversary too and made my first post on here today! I found out on 5 Jan 2013 after losing weight and drinking constantly, the same as you. I have not had any tests. Just been given injections and a wave off goodbye. Think I need to contact them as...

NOT QUITE A NEWBEE BUT CONFUSED

Hi everyone I wondered if I could ask a bit of advice. I was diagnosed in Jan 2012 after losing a stone in 3 weeks and drinking for England. My GP took my blood gloucose and my sugar level 28.7 and ketones ++. She then packed me off to A&E. They were terribly ill informed about diabetes but did...
