Newcastle Diet - currently 15 months in

Hi all, I'd shared my story and progress in the 'newly diagnosed' thread here and a few have said I should share here too. I'll not go into all the detail/background but have shared the link to my story. Basically, diagnosed just before Christmas 2022 with an HbA1c of 98. Spent a few weeks...

    Newcastle Diet day 1 !!

Thanks, much appreciated. It definitely helps motivation to have a forum like this (not to mention all the advice), so thank you to everyone for the support. I'll get something in that 'success stories" at some point.....just not wanting to tempt fate too early. Basically, I did the shakes/salad...

    Newcastle Diet day 1 !!

Just a quick update on my Newcastle Diet journey which started in December 2022 with an HbA1c of 98. HbA1c was down to 44 by March 2023 and mid 30s by June 2023. Around 15 months in now and managed to keep the weight loss steady for the last 12 months, having lost 36kg in total. Last weeks...

    Newcastle Diet day 1 !!

Hi @Pipp, yes, definitely following the low carb path. I feel very fortunate and very grateful that I've been able to read, research and learn from some of the studies carried out by early pioneers (like yourself). The general NHS 'plate' is far from ideal and I'm generally following the advice...

    Newcastle Diet day 1 !!

Many thanks both. Personally, I found the first 8 weeks more difficult than the last 3 months or so but agree very low calorie is definitely not the way to go long term. I followed the first 8 weeks with the doctors support and also attended an NHS X-Pert Diabetes course over 6 weeks to ensure...

    Newcastle Diet day 1 !!

Just a quick update, nearly 6 months in. HbA1C is now 35, so really pleased with the journey so far, considering it was 98 in December.

    Newcastle Diet day 1 !!

Hi all, starting to replace shakes with more ‘real’ food now and generally trying to eat a better diet. HbA1c was 98 in mid December and is now 44 so still work to do but pleased with the results.

    Newcastle Diet day 1 !!

Quick update as into the last week of 8 on the Newcastle Diet of shakes, salad and veg. Tomato soup has been a staple and plenty salad, stir fry veg, asparagus and broccoli to help things move along! 21kg lost so far but I’m well aware I’m moving into step 2 and 3, so looking forward to the...

    Newcastle Diet day 1 !!

Quick update. Around 6 weeks from diagnosis with the first 2 weeks eating a low calorie food diet and then the last 4 weeks following the Newcastle Diet. Booked in to get my HbA1c checked in February. The nurse said this may be too soon, so they’re checking again in March. The nurses I see...

    Newcastle Diet day 1 !!

Agree with everything you say. I think that's the reason the 3 step approach was developed following the initial trials on the shakes. I should have been clearer and said I am following the ND Programme and not just the diet. I'm definitely not planning to remain on the shakes.

    Newcastle Diet day 1 !!

Just a quick update on day #15. Had the appointment with the nurse yesterday to discuss which medication I would be on (Statins and Metformin were mentioned 2 weeks ago). Weigh in showed a 10kg loss and BP down to normal. Had a healthy discussion on the ND and the nurse was very supportive and...

That’s great, thanks for that. I’ll definitely check it out [emoji106]

    Newcastle Diet day 1 !!

Day 11 today and seem to be doing ok, thank you. I've got my appointment with the diabetic nurse on Monday, so that will be day 14 and I'm hoping she will support me as much as everyone on this forum is. I'll pop an update in here. Here's some of my learnings to-date: I'm finding the 3xshakes...

    Newcastle Diet day 1 !!

@ravensmitten No need at all to apologies, it's all very interesting and in some ways similar to my own story. I was only diagnosed mid December when probably at my 'peak' weight. Not for medical reasons but prior to lockdown I'd lost about 20kg but then steadily regained the weight again, so I...

Sounds like you’re off to a fantastic start and have all that experience behind you now. Go for it and best wishes [emoji106]

    Newcastle Diet day 1 !!

Thanks @ajbod ,the ND is a 1-2-3 step approach. From what I have read, reintroducing a healthy diet in step 2 and then totally dropping the shakes by step 3 is a challenge too. I'm 'armed' with the Hairy Bikers book, "Eat to Beat Type 2 Diabetes", so planning to follow use that as a guide to...

Thank you, I hadn’t seen that so that’s really useful.

    Newcastle Diet day 1 !!

Thanks for the reply @ajbod, much appreciated. It really helps a lot sharing progress and the encouragement and support given. I totally understand that the ND approach isn't for everyone but I've got to give it my best shot. My BP on diagnosis on 13th December was 183/100 and HbA1c levels were...

    Newcastle Diet day 1 !!

First week of Newcastle diet and 9kg down after my GP diagnosis mid December. I started the ND on 27th December after trying to conventionally diet for the first 2 weeks and doing as much research into type 2 reversal as I could. Got an appointment with the diabetic nurse on Monday and...

    Newcastle Diet day 1 !!

Thank you. Yes, definitely agree with you. I guess every little helps, so the one I went for was 3.2g/100ml. As you say, I only used about 10ml so hardly worth it.
