Running (10k+) and Type 2 Diabetes - Experiences

I'm some way away from multi hour endurance bike rides or runs so at the moment I'm building those up with shorter outings e.g. 5km runs and 1 hour bike rides. I am fit enough to do longer walks with the dog though, so am trying my fuelling approach on those first. Today Obi (my very fit...

Running (10k+) and Type 2 Diabetes - Experiences

I suspect when I was doing longer runs and bike rides before diagnosis I had so much sugar sloshing about in my blood that I rarely needed to fuel up (my hb1ac was 106 when I was diagnosed, without any symptoms). Now it's lower I'm paying more attention, including trying to find ways to fuel in...

Advice about waking up with type 2

My highest readings of the day are often when I test first thing in the morning, and there is some discussions around that i.e. "High blood sugar in the morning is often caused by the dawn phenomenon (a natural hormone surge telling the liver to release sugar), waning medication or insulin...

Diagnosed in may, getting my HbA1c retaken on 10th (Monday) & feeling very confused

My initial hb1ac when diagnosed as a T2 in March 2023 was 106. I got put on metformin straight away but the advice on what to eat wasn't useful, and it was only after reading up on things (including joining here) that I identified low-carb as being worth a try. Using that primarily my next hb1ac...

    Hba1c result

My total cholesterol was 7.5 when originally diagnosed with T2 and I started on statins then and it's now 4.4. I suspect some of that will be the statins and some will be the diet changes I made. I've not encountered any side effects from the statins but I have read that some people do.

    Weekly weigh in - Fridays

79.75 this morning, so very slightly up on last week although I'm at the other house and I think the scales there might read slightly higher. But no real change anyway!

    Weekly weigh in - Fridays

79.55 this morning, slightly up on last week but still around 12st 7lb and BMI still under 26 (but only just).

    Weekly weigh in - Fridays

To medicate or not to medicate, that is the question

I was diagnosed with an HB1AC of 106 in March 2023. 3 months later I'd got that down to 53 (using the same approach as I've again this time) and then down to 43 after another 3 months. I then got complacent and let it climb back up (along with my weight), so this time I need to put measures in...

To medicate or not to medicate, that is the question

I had my hb1ac test on Friday last week and while I've had no contact from the surgery yet the "my diabetes my way" site is showing that as being 45. I handed in a week of blood pressure readings as well and in the week leading up to the blood test they averaged 120/72 with the one I took just...

    Weekly weigh in - Fridays

80.4kg this morning, which is 12st 9lbs and a BMI of 26.2. That's a drop of 1.5kg from last Friday - my weight loss goes like that sometimes, remaining reasonably static for a week or two then a sizeable drop, then maybe a slight climb back up for a little while. Decent progress anyway, and...

    Habc1

48 isn't bad. I've got my own hb1ac tomorrow and would be happy with that!

    Weekly weigh in - Fridays

Sorry - yes, actually meant 79kg in 3 months, then 76kg in 3 months after that.

    Weekly weigh in - Fridays

81.9kg today, which is 12st 13lbs and a BMI of 26.7. Getting under 82kg was my initial target, so I've decided to set a new one to be under 79kg in 3 months. That'd be a BMI of under 26. Then another 3 months to get to 76kg which is a BMI of 25.

    BGM - what model?

I'm been using a GlucoNavii for a few years now and last time I checked there didn't appear to be anything substantially better available. 100 test strips & 100 lancets are £24.99 from Amazon. The GlucoNavii itself is about £15 with 10 test strips or £25 with 50.

Feels like my life is over at 24

An hb1ac of 55 isn't drastically bad (mine was 106 when I was diagnosed!) although I think would still be regarded as being a diabetes diagnosis rather than pre-diabetes. It is in the range that I'd expect it to be reasonably manageable via diet and other lifestyle changes though, especially as...
