A question on spikes after remission

Really helpful, thank you all. I'm still getting the annual blood test, as well as eye and foot check ups so it's not like there isn't a safety net either. I think because I'm so young (within the context of diabetes, otherwise I feel old AF at 38!) I'm just wary of the long game. I've found a...

A question on spikes after remission

Thanks @JoKalsbeek I don't think I spike enough (or will spike enough) to get me back into the diabetic range, I'm just trying to work out if a prolonged spike still has the same effect given I'm now in the non-diabetic range. For example, even when I was bringing my levels down to the...

A question on spikes after remission

Hi all, Diagnosed this May with Type 2, 99mmol. Went back to docs for three month test a couple of weeks ago and it was 31mmol, so remission. I’m still using the Libre 2 sensors to keep me on track but I had a question about spikes. I follow the advice of making sure I’m at 7.8 or lower 2...

    Can't believe I'm posting this

I can’t afford to go back to the way I was for sure - not least because I genuinely feel better now. I didn’t realise how rough I felt day to day until I started getting a grip on my diet. I think I’m probably quite fortunate that I can still have the odd treat and my body handles it within...

    Can't believe I'm posting this

So back in early May I was diagnosed with Type 2 diabetes. I'm 38 and found it really hard to accept. If you go back and look at my posts you'll probably see that. My mmol was 97, and in a test a couple of days later to confirm, 99. I believe that's around 11.2% in old money. I was given 500mg...

Music festivals and type 2 - tips needed

I’m not a huge drinker at all, but I’ve been known to partake in the occasional sesh. My plan for this fest is to limit beer, stick to spirits and just not take the p*ss basically. I’ll be monitoring myself and not being daft while still enjoying a few drinks in the sun. Interesting that your...

Music festivals and type 2 - tips needed

Tbh, I feel like 10 days in I've adapted quite well and accepted this. I cried solidly for two days and then moved on. Good tip on combining starters and sides. I was going to have an Indian takeaway this weekend and thought of doing that. I'll be going to South Carolina and Denver. South...

Music festivals and type 2 - tips needed

I've been eating fewer carbs, monitoring with a Libre 2 and generally just being aware of what causes a prolonged spike so I can avoid in future. I was diagnosed less than two weeks ago so it's all pretty new. Thanks for the advice, think it'll be a case of what you say - going for the least...

Music festivals and type 2 - tips needed

Thanks @ianf0ster I should have mentioned I'm veggie too! I think I'm just going to have to look for salads, maybe some halloumi fries or something. Also, maybe I'll just have to have something bad a couple of times and write it off. It's largely out of my control and I don't want to be the...

Music festivals and type 2 - tips needed

Hey all, I'll be going to my first festival as a type 2 this year and, being honest, this diagnosis has really taken the shine off it! I'm on metformin (2 x 500mg) and I don't know what I can take to eat that's suitable and how I'll manage my drink. I'll be walking and dancing a lot - maybe a...

    First readings question

Hi all, New type 2. Got a Libre 2 sensor today and started experimenting. When I had my blood test last week and diagnosis, my hba1c was 96/10.9. Been limiting carbs a bit more (around 100g a day), and this morning the sensor gave me 69/8.5 when I woke up. Appreciate the hba1c is three...

I feel like I’ve lost everything.

Appreciate it. I’m so up and down at the moment. Not only is eating out and having a few drinks with mates the crux of my social life, I have a young family and navigating diet with two kids and a wife who don’t have these problems is going to be a headache. I’m going to be the person who has...

I feel like I’ve lost everything.

I know you’re trying to help and I really appreciate it. So thank you. I just still can’t come to terms with it. Even if it can be made ‘easy’ when on the go or somewhere new, the idea of eating a burger without the bun and no fries is so depressing it’s unreal. And I still don’t know what a...

I feel like I’ve lost everything.

To add, my doctor said they’re hopeful I could put it into remission and I lit up at the thought as I thought this mean I could somewhat go back to how I used to be (but not excessively), though reading on here seems like this is not true and people eat and sacrifice just as much after...

I feel like I’ve lost everything.

Hi all. Newly diagnosed type 2. 38 years old. I’ve spent this morning crying my eyes out as this all dawns on me. I’ve read lots of posts and, honestly, I feel like I’ve lost who I was because of this diagnosis. I’m veggie and travel a lot for work and pleasure. I’m actually in Sweden in a...

    Newly diagnosed, confused and worried

Thanks both. My problem is most of my meals are in conjunction with my wife on Slimming World, but it looks like if I adjust that to reduce carbs and add a bit of fat it may help. With these high fat diets, even though you say they’re good for diabetes, are they not clogging up your heart etc?

    Newly diagnosed, confused and worried

If I wasn’t vegetarian I think I’d have a very easy time with low carbs. I just can’t think what I’ll be eating and some of the stuff I’ve seen makes me think I can’t stick to it. I don’t want to give up being vegetarian. I think I need to find a way to reduce my carbs and still eat well...

    Newly diagnosed, confused and worried

I hear you. Maybe I’m just in denial. My wife is veggie too and follows slimming world and I’ve lost 8lbs in a couple of weeks doing the same. I need to lose weight first and foremost as I understand this will lead to a better HbA1c and BG. If I continue slimming world, and eat fewer carbs...

    Newly diagnosed, confused and worried

Yeah. Fair enough! My friend has a spare Libre 2 sensor so I’m gonna give that a go next weekend and try not to get myself too overwhelmed by radically overhauling my diet. Once I do start wearing it I’ll see what works and what doesn’t. The interesting bit in that article for me was that low...

    Newly diagnosed, confused and worried

Just to also add, it feels like there are so many dietary directions and advice out there. I know plenty of people say low carb, but it seems others promote scientific studies that say the opposite. I’ve seen this Adventist study of 61,000 people referenced a lot, and this doctor who says...
