    Remission

Hi all Just off the phone with my Diabetes Nurse, and following my third hba1c below 40, she's taking me off my meds and my remission trial period has begun. Been about 10 months since I got my score of 80 and my official diagnosis, so I'm pretty happy with that. Thanks to you all for your...

    Xyla diet

Hi all Was wondering if anyone had tried or knew anyone who had tried the 'Xyla' diet? I'm T2D and managing it well by going low carb and exercising. My wife has been told she needs to lose weight for non diabetic reasons. Her GP has offered her Slimming World, Second Nature or Xyla. Leaving...

    Breakfast ideas

There are some decent (though pricey) low carb breads. Having some of that with whatever form of eggs is pretty good. Other options are an omlette with added veg, cheese and meats. A lot of people on here go for Greek Yoghurt, but it's one of the few foods I can't stand. Something I do like...

    Off Statin or not?

Yeah, QRisk is a whole other thread I think. I wasn't aware of it before my T2D journey, and it was used to scare me into action (which in fairness, worked). I do wonder how serious or accurate it is? Things like BMI and the NHS's current official approach to T2D are old hat now. I wonder about...

    Off Statin or not?

Thanks for that @KennyA - good to have an official diagnosis for remission. That's the next target to aim for. Statins don't have any side effects with me, so I'm not bothered for that, but it can have a bearing on things like life and travel insurance. Plus I think it's one of those things...

    Off Statin or not?

Hi all. Was diagnosed with T2D in May 23 with a HbA1c of 80. Dropped Carbs and sugars. Took up exercise, lost 45lbs Have had 3 subsequent tests, with scores of 36, 34 and 34 again just last week. Have gone from 2000mg of Metformin down to 500g. I asked the nurse if I could come off it following...

Interesting T2D Article in todays Guardian

Thought this would be worth sharing. From todays Guardian - written from an American perspective. I had assumed (wrongly) that America was more advanced in using low-carb as a treatment for T2D, but not if this article is to be believed...

    T2D Friendly Products

Good list! I've tried Deliciously Guilt Free - v good but pricey. Carbzone wraps are good and they come closest to palatable pasta alternative. SkinnyFood stuff I'm not really a fan of. Whatever sweetners they use just doesnt appeal.

    T2D Friendly Products

Yeah, I got some of these as a treat for Fathers Day a few months back. Not something I'd buy regular, but as a birthday treat or something, they are great.

    T2D Friendly Products

Sadly they seem just about sold out of everything!

    T2D Friendly Products

Hadn't heard of Ketoroma or UnLtd IPA before, so this thread has done exactly what I had hoped. I'd heard of Srsly before, though hadn't ordered from there as it seems a bit pricey (they all do), but I might get myself some Christmas treats from both those sites.

    T2D Friendly Products

Since being diagnosed T2D in May 23, I have gone low-carb with great success for my health. Like you all I’m sure, I miss not being able to have all the old carby and sugary things that got me into this mess in the first place. Since my diagnosis, I’ve spent more time than is healthy looking at...

    BG increase after med reduction?

Thanks for that - really helpful to know. Definitely still have weight to lose and am working on it. My tests in May said I had a fatty liver, but subsequent tests have shown that to have improved significantly. I haven't really done blood glucose readings before and 2 hours after meals -...

    BG increase after med reduction?

Yeah, I try to stay under 50g of carbs a day, so I'm not full keto. If I dont return to lower levels in a few weeks, I'll give this a go I think.

    BG increase after med reduction?

In May, my HBA1C was 80, when I was diagnosed with T2D. Was given 2000mg of Metformin and Canagiflozin and I began low carbs and exercise. In August, I my HBA1C was 36. Nurse dropped me down to 1000mg of Metformin and Canagiflozin. My October HBA1C was 34, so the Metformin is now 500mg and...

Pairing foods to make food healthier?

Yeah, basically its if you're going to have something carb heavy, have it after or with something that is low carb and high fibre. This will cause less of a spike.

    Would you eat this?

There are some very decent low (and no carb). Lowecal, Bach 95, Skinny etc. Have a look at Drinkwell https://drinkwelluk.com/collections/low-calorie-beer

Flu/Covid jab causing blood sugar spike

Thanks all. Nice to have a logical reason for a sudden spike. Hopefully it clears up within a day

Flu/Covid jab causing blood sugar spike

Hi all T2D diagnosed in May with a Hb1ac of 80. Got it down to 36 by August. Have another check in a few weeks. I check my blood glucose most mornings and it's about 6.0 on average - depending it seems on how many peanuts I ate the night before. Got the double Covid and Flu boosters yesterday...

    Milk Thistle

There are studies out there which say it can help lower blood glucose, but nothing I can see after 2014. Would be curious to hear more.
