Thanks that’s a really good point - forgot about the general impact of infection! Doubled basal this morning and still had to rescue with big doses of rapid.. it is such a b*gger as you say. Just got steady after finishing chemo and lots of steroids which were the worst!!

    Insulin, antibiotics & steroids!

I’ve just come across your post. I’m also on humulin (and novorapid) and regularly have to take steroids due to chemotherapy. It really does shoot the readings up and I’ve had to take up to x4 times my usual amount and be really careful of carbs to keep within range. It will totally depend on...

    Insulin pen too hot?

Thanks all for your advice… I’ve had a much better day today so think there must be other variables at play. I’ve got a cool pack for my insulin case which I may start to use in this weather!

    Insulin pen too hot?

I’ve been quite careful to keep them out of direct sunlight / car and always in a case within a bag but it’s been so hot I just wondered if it could be that. Is it worth putting back in and out of fridge at home even when in use? Wasn’t sure if that would be worse to go up and down in temperature?

    Newly diagnosed

Hi Karen - I was also diagnosed about a month ago too and very similarly admitted due to ketones etc. Going through chemo at the moment too so steroid doses are making it extra tricky.m but I’ve found this group really helpful so far. Have you managed to get a libre monitor on your arm to help...

    Insulin pen too hot?

My rapid insulin has had really poor effectiveness today, after an hour 2 units dropped my blood glucose by 0.1.. I’m worried the heat has affected my pen. Still a newbie so not really sure? To note I am on steroids at the moments following a chemo dose but other similar days have had much...

    Ice cream!

Having only been diagnosed a few weeks, I’m still getting my head around everything but with this hot weather I just thought - will I ever be able to have an ice cream again! I suppose I can just calculate carbs and inject but any pitfalls to watch out for? Better after a meal with protein I...

    Insulin and oral steroids

I’m taking steroids for 3 days every week following a chemotherapy dose. It’s sending my sugars very high but my long acting insulin dose has been almost doubled and that’s helping a lot - do have to be careful with my rapid though as have then gone low overnight! I’m managing but the constant...

    First hypo

I was doing 15g to 1 unit and rounding down as needed. I’m on humulin i long acting. I’m using carbs and cals app to calculate but I didn’t know about any other apps that integrate everything. Do you have to enter blood sugars separately or does it pull it in from libre? Spoke to doc this...

    First hypo

I’ve been diagnosed a couple of weeks and started on long acting insulin (14units) morning and night but was still having highs so started on some rapid yesterday. Long acting dose was also dropped to 12. For the rapid I was quite conservative on units to carbs (20g to 1 unit to start as per...

Type 3c - how many are we?

I’ve just been diagnosed as diabetic and presume I’m type 3c. I have cancer of the bile duct and my pancreatic duct is dilated / compromised. I’m also on creon. I’ve started on insulin and feeling like a different person - I think my sugars were running above 20 for over a month! What’s the...
