    It's a big world! ;)

    Soups and stews please

Thank you, Male! I should try that come spring! (It's almost mid-winter here at the moment. A little cool and dark for starting seeds.)

    Diabetes has affected the retina.

Hi, Lisa! I am so sorry to hear that diabetes has effected your eyes! That is scary! I read in a later post that you have been diagnosed with diabetic Maculopathy rather than retinopathy, but I wanted to answer your original question here just in case someone with the same question comes along...

How much cheese is too much cheese?

As with most things nutritional, I think a lot depends not on "rules" but on how your body reacts, Cluuur. Cheese can be somewhat, errrr, "clogging" to some people. If you start to experience constipation, you may need to back off some. But if you are thriving, then the only question might be...

    An astonishing event... (melatonin)

I really hope it helps you, too, KetoAnnie!

    An astonishing event... (melatonin)

Mine is a low dose, 5mg. Keep a close watch, because as I said, the studies seem to go both ways...

    An astonishing event... (melatonin)

That's exactly what my son speculated, MrsA2. I don't think of myself as someone with seep troubles, but since COVID, I had been having the occasional insomnia. My son suggested that COVID may have disrupted my sleep more than I had realised. That does seem to be a possibility.

    Thank you, Rachox. How curious.

    An astonishing event... (melatonin)

I have had type 2 diabetes for 25 years, most of that time I have controlled it reasonably easily through food choices and exercise. Then came COVID19. Once the Australian lockdowns ended and no one wore masks anymore, of course COVID ripped through the previously protected population like a...

    Soups and stews please

So true! For years, I have started chopping onion an garlic while I thought about what to make for tea...only to discover that onion in everything may well have been part of my growing trouble of increasing my blood sugar! Fortunately, I can still have a little, so now I chop a half o a quarter...

    Soups and stews please

Perhaps it's just my body. I can eat very little onion without a rise in blood sugar, much as I love them.

    Soups and stews please

If you cut the amount of onion, it can even be keto. ;)

    New here

Welcome to the "club no one willingly joins" Pandrea. It's been a LONG long time since I joined, and I will add my voice to the chorus of wisdom here with the advice that made all the difference to me 25 years ago when I was the newbie. Get a glucometer, test test test! Figure out what YOUR...

Low-carb related problems in long term ?

I am of a *slightly* alternative view to most here, Noob. I have been low carb for most of 25 years. No issues at all, except that thanks to Long COVID, it stopped working. I have made several forays into keto to try to wrench my blood sugar back under control when COVID kicked me in the...

I had my first real emergency today

I am so glad that you went to the hospital and are (more or less) ok now. Have you reset your alarms yet? Those are important!

    Berberine

Hi, Bcgirl! I had the same trouble when starting berberine. I had to quit twice! But I found that neem leaf helped a great deal with the intense intestinal discomfort (one 475gram capsule for each 500 gram capsule of berberine), and after a while - a couple of bottles - wasn't necessary anymore.

Just Got my Casual "Oh your blood test showed prediabetes"

Yes, you will definitely need to add butter or olive oil to the cauliflower, and eat plenty of both. Since you are eating clean, you are not super likely to have any downsides to eating fat. It's the folks who eat a lot of empty carbs plus seed oils who are most likely to have problems with fats...

Just Got my Casual "Oh your blood test showed prediabetes"

Keto isn't for everyone, that's true. I am "intermittently keto" since going keto messes with my thyroid balance. I do it one month on and one month off. The off month I am still low carb, just not keto. Oh, as an advocate of the Wahls Protocol I would not recommend the carnivore diet. ;)...

Just Got my Casual "Oh your blood test showed prediabetes"

Hi, Sarge! It may very well be worth getting a hot plate to expand your cooking options. But even without it, you can make boiled eggs in a hotpot. Eating meat should not give you iron toxicity unless you have the gene for hemochromatosis. There are other lower carb vegetables, so no...
