    Hba1c down but Cholesterol up...

Thank you @MrsA2 - I agree with you on understanding the metabolism - I think there is still so much more to understand. I have started listening to "The Clot Thickens".... very interesting and entertaining! I too will just "do my best" with diet, exercise and being outdoors - and reducing...

    Hba1c down but Cholesterol up...

Thanks very much for the info on cholesterol and statins. I saw my GP today, and he was very helpful - positive about the balance of cholesterol but I got a bit of a shock when he said I would “probably develop diabetes” as it appears there must be a big genetic component (since it didn’t...

    Hba1c down but Cholesterol up...

Thanks so much for your support- always reassuring to hear that I am not alone. I am beginning to think I may need to go on a statin, but not overly keen on the idea. Will get my head round it, if required!

    Hba1c down but Cholesterol up...

Hi.....after 8 months of significantly reducing carbs and sugar, my Hba1c has dropped (only) 2 points to 44. Not only that, my cholesterol levels have gone up - both the LDL and HDL levels are higher than they were in December. I have been eating more cheese, meat, eggs etc as well as lots of...

    Experimenting with a CGM

So…. after 7 months of being very careful about what I’m eating, reducing carbs and sugar significantly, eating more protein and healthy fats, my Hba1c has only dropped by 1 point to 44. How can that be? I am so fed up…. I also do lots of exercise so not sure what else I can do.

    Food combining?

Thank you very much for the update. Very interesting and helpful. I am awaiting results of blood tests last week- at that point I will decide what to do next. My weight has stablised but I am still 4 kg down on what I was ( and where I’d like to be). I find the lo-carb challenging but stick...

    Experimenting with a CGM

Thank you for your very detailed report @answers on a postcard - very helpful indeed and very encouraging. Congratulations at working so hard to bring your numbers down - that is a great result! I was re-tested on Monday and am awaiting my results. I continue to try to reduce carbs and sugar...

    Experimenting with a CGM

I am coming to the end of my sensor time and will have a few weeks off as I have become a little obsessed with checking the levels and now need to regain my confidence in making food choices without a measurement. I feel I understand my body a bit better, but there are still some “curved balls”...

    Experimenting with a CGM

Thank you - this is all very interesting and good to see that there is someone else who thinks in a similar way to I do! I will reply in more detail later - but thank you.

    Experimenting with a CGM

Thank you. That is very interesting. I will definitely focus on the shape of the graph and trends rather than the absolute figures. I am hoping to bring my hba1c back into the “normal” range.

Thank you, yes, very helpful. I will look at trends rather than absolute values.

    Experimenting with a CGM

So....I'm now trying the Libre 2 and with similar eating patterns and carb intake, I'm seeing higher glucose numbers- where with the Dexcom I was seeing around 5.4/5.6, I'm seeing steady-state over 6.0/6.6 with the Libre. Is this to be expected? Or does it indicate that my levels have gone up...

    Experimenting with a CGM

Yes, I thought I’d see what the levels are like at the end of May, but at least now feel I have a better understanding of the impact of what I am eating. I find it very hard to cut out carbs completely so I’d like to get to something that is manageable for me.

    Experimenting with a CGM

Thanks for your reply. It will be interesting for us both to see how our Hba1c measures up against the average glucose from the CGM. My next test is in June.

    HbA1C

Looking again at my graphs for 10 days with the Dexcom One+, the levels are within range and come down again fairly quickly after eating. I only had two spikes higher than 11 - when I ate a small tub of Icecream on its own, and a bowl of sweeter breakfast cereal - just to see what happened...

    Experimenting with a CGM

Hi, I have just trialled a (Dexcom One+) CGM for a week to get an idea of what my BG is doing. At the end, my average BG was 5.8 mmol/L., having restricted my carb intake to a "manageable" level for me. When I had 24 hours without carbs, my BG was very low - and overnight went into the red zone...

    HbA1C

Hi, I declared pre-diabetes and they sent me a sample. I am now using it and it’s very interesting! Not quite sure how to interpret the data but I’m only 24 hours in!
