    Could I be LADA?

I had gestational diabetes in 2010 when I was slim, pregnant and 23 years old. I was told it went away after I had my baby. Fast forward 2 years and I had all of the symptoms back so off I pop to my GP aged 25 with a BMI of 23 who takes one look at me and tells me I’m too young and too slim to...

    Accu-chek test kits query?

Thanks Smidge, I have had error codes too, one said not enough blood but the others just say 'meter error' so I don't even know why there is an error, just that there is one! I might ask my DSN for a new Aviva I don't like this one :-(

    Accu-chek test kits query?

I'm on mixed insulin so I don't bolus but I've heard it's a good meter so I might ask. There actually wasn't any control sample with this meter at all...

    Accu-chek test kits query?

I know they won't be the same consistently but if it's 1.5 or 2mmol or even more difference then that's pretty huge.. If the mobile says I'm 5.8mmol and the Aviva says I'm 3.5... Do I drive? I need to know what to do without having to deliberately run my bloods high just to be on the safe...

    Feeling so alone!

Hi liv, I'm sorry you feel so low but I can tell you for sure that ur not the only one so ur not alone. I have only been diagnosed for 2 years and only went onto insulin in October and I'm pretty much the same as you, I know nobody at all with type 1 diabetes. My friends didn't understand or...

    Accu-chek test kits query?

I did that initially Noblehead and it worked for another day then died again but I've just done it again and it's actually working now but I don't know how long for. I just tested before with one meter and then the other and there was a 1.5mmol difference. Il try again in the morning but I bet...

    Accu-chek test kits query?

The old meter has been consistent since I began insulin back in October so if the battery was malfunctioning it's been doing it since October? I might order another free accu-check Aviva and use it as a spare to double check.. The most worrying thing for me has been that there are times when...

    Accu-chek test kits query?

Hi all, I have been using the accu-chek Aviva for over a year now but it finally knackered a couple of weeks ago (battery) so my DSN gave me a new meter but she gave me the accu-chek mobile. Ever since I've been using this new meter ALL of my readings have been much higher, at least 2mmol...

Can Type 1 Diabetics eat Chocolate ?!

I don't think chocolate is any worse for type 1 diabetics than it is for non-diabetics. You can eat it and inject for it but at the end of the day it's not a healthy option really but that applies to diabetics and to non-diabetics. So long as you're not overweight I don't see the harm...

So much weight gain since I started insulin

Hi and welcome, I have the exact same problem. I started insulin mid October and have put on a stone in weight since then. I'm on mixed insulin too and I take 8units in the morning and 13 at night but I'm having to lower it as I'm going low both at lunchtime and sometimes through the night...

How many different 'types' are there? Diagnoses Stories.

I completely agree Ian. My GP surgery refused to list me as type 1/LADA because I wasn't on insulin and they said it would "affect the system" but my consultant wasn't happy as he had diagnosed me with LADA and had the autoimmune test results done so he contacted them and told them to change it...

How many different 'types' are there? Diagnoses Stories.

Surely you can't stop it from working if you don't know what it is?

How many different 'types' are there? Diagnoses Stories.

With type 2 diabetes the ability to produce insulin is neither restricted nor destroyed unless left uncontrolled for a long period of time. In fact, type 2s can have complications as they have TOO MUCH insulin floating around their body. Type 2 diabetes occurs when the body is producing insulin...

How many different 'types' are there? Diagnoses Stories.

I would personally say it's way off the mark Tim. The most accurate way I've ever heard it explained is that there are only 2 main types of diabetes and that is autoimmune diabetes (type1/LADA) and non-autoimmune diabetes (type2). They are completely different with one being a condition(non...

    New insulin user; advice, please?

Wow that is a lot... I only take 9 units in the morning and 15 on an evening... I have no insulin resistance though and am still producing some of my own insulin which is probably why my doses are quite low...

    Nightmare diabetes appointment

The one i'm on at the moment is apparently 70% fast acting and 30% basal. The weight gain is awful though, I've put on a stone since starting insulin mid-October and because it's mixed I sometimes have to eat when I'm not hungry just to cover the fast acting. This is not ideal. On the other...

    Nightmare diabetes appointment

It all sounds so confusing when everyone discusses ratios and being on a basal/bolus regime I'm not sure I could manage it as I don't understand it at all. I take mixed insulin twice a day and my levels are nearly always between 4 and 6, fasting at 5 and with the odd spike over Christmas...

    Type 1: Prescription fine

I think it's just that diabetes affects literally every part of your body and almost always causes some sort of problem or complication at some point so any medication u might need could probably be linked back to the diabetes in some way.. There is also the fact that many conditions qualify...
