    A dark day 22/02/13

I was diagnosed 4 weeks ago, today. Even though I knew it was inevitable (with my family history and twice gestational diabetic), it was still a shock. I immediately took drastic measures. I have in the past 4 weeks, I have lost 18lbs and brought my BMI down from 26.8 to 23.6 (still overweight...

has anyone been refused test strips for type 2

I find it interesting that the NHS would not want to spend money on test strips but will still have the handle the complications of diabetes at a much higher cost. Penny wise, pound foolish.

Can people explain how they feel during hi's and lo's?

Symptoms from during my gestational diabetic stages and now my newly diagnosed diabetic phase: Highs: weird feeling in the head, very thirsty, dry mouth. General feeling of not feeling well. Lows (insulin dependant gestational diabetic twice): Extreme hunger and shakiness. Always woke me up...

New and I want to cry

Hi Diabolic Sister I agree with Anjum. Like her, my family is seeped in the illness. I am of South Asian descent, so even though I wasn't massively overweight, my BMI was OBESE in terms of BMI index for South Asians. Even though, I have brought it down to almost 24, I am still officially...

Newcastle Diet & other very low calorie diets

Hi I am curious as to why this study isn't more largely implemented? From my own experience, in the last month, a VLCD has brought my newly diagnosed diabetes well within normal ranges. Fasting reading 5.0-5.5, down from 7.0. Post meal reading 6.0-6.5, down from 12! I have lost 16 lbs and I...

    Newcastle Diet

Hi Tashaleigh I was diagnosed 22/02. Went on a VLCD (something like Newcastle) using Cambridge. I have lost 16 lbs so far (only 8 days of sole source and then eating low calorie), my glucose levels is back to normal. My blood pressure has lowered considerably and my HbA1C is 42 or 6%. I expect...

    Newbie, diagnosed last Friday

Thank goodness I didn't see your post until now! lol! I have lost 16lbs, in less than a month, my blood glucose is well within normal range and my blood pressure is down to 106/70ish. My HbA1c is 6% or 42mmol/mol. I think the mind can be a very powerful tool. :)

    Diagnosed on Friday

Almost a month since my diagnosis of hypertension and diabetes. I have lost 16 lbs. My blood pressure is 106/70 and my blood glucose are well within the normal range. As I am still diet and exercise controlled and my goal was to reverse this, I think I have achieved it. I still want to lose...

    Any help please.

You can start by going on a low carb diet, this will help you lose weight and help control your glucose levels. Unfortunately, I'm not a doctor, so I suggest getting advice from your GP.

    Thrush and type 2 diabetic

Before my diagnosis, it was a recurrent problem (surprised they didn't test me earlier, 2 gestational diabetic pregnancies and two Type 2 parents, but that's another story) Ask for Diflucan x 3. You take a tablet 1 a week for 3 weeks. Use Vagisal to numb the discomfort.

    Yes but no.

Hi I am on a mission to reverse my diagnosis and I seem to be doing it! Well done, it's inspirational to hear that it can be done. I'm not even on diabetic meds. I went on a very low calorie diet (A version of the Newcastle Diet) and I am getting readings of 5.3-6.4. It'll be a week since my...

Pregnant - am I ready to go through all this again?

I got it the first time, during my third pregnancy, only diagnosed at 32 weeks. Also got pre-eclampsia, and placenta praevia grade 4 to boot. Went on insulin. Many hospital stays, glucose sliding scales and the like. She was born at 38 weeks by elective c-section. 2 days in special care. Fourth...

First visit to Diabetic Nurse; not a great experience

There is a perception of ignorance I must admit. I went to the doctors as I had high blood pressure. Doctor 1: Measured it, it was high, but he said I needed 4 more readings. He also ordered a fasting blood glucose test. Had it, and went back to see doctor 2. Doctor 1 had asked for a HbA1C...

Hi all I have dropped 9 lbs so far and my post meal reading was 7.4. Fingers crossed that I turn this around. :D My blood pressure has dropped to around 115/81 from 140ish/90ish. It great to get on the scale and weigh in at 9st 13lbs, BMI 25.4... still overweight, especially for a South Asian.
