    New NICE Guidelines

I got similar treatment today. GP refused Thyroxine, Been on it for many years, not seen the blood test but they say I'm taking too much. Asked to see the consultant, they spoke to one 2 years ago on my behalf and they had a meeting between gps the other day!! Diabetes I can do the finger...

Need to vent - *&@# GP surgery messing me about

I was told no need to test regularly, so bought GlucoRx meter, lancets and test strips to test every day. I've had one hypo, ended up in hospital, very confused and unable to stand. I want to avoid any more. Glucose goes up with infections and I think the cough we both had could have been a...

dsn appt - cgm readings... more confused now than prior

What is too tight?, you are keeping a good check on your readings being careful and sensible and you know your own body, not the nurse. I've felt hypoish below 5, weak, faint, grab biscuit, So I prefer 6ish. I have to move about a lot when I get up and I think i use my glucose from supper...

    Dry throat.

Thanks Clare. No pain or anything and since then possibly more biscuits, Husband died yesterday, chest infection, so a bit chaotic. Finger prick tests now better. 5-6, they were 7s and 8s, even general infection, milder version of his, which has eased - I hope.

What have you eaten today? (Low carb forum)

Hi Filly, one of those days again, forgot the password! Mini chocolate muffins and hot chocolate today I need comfort food and blood glucose not too bad. Had a busy few days. I've been told off by paramedics, usually with litle experience. My Husband has a neurodegenerative disease, needs...

It doesn't have to turn out like that Panorama programme suggested

now 2025, I never watch tv, but I remember the blame put on us for eating too many sweets. I never ate many sweets, eat now to stave off hypos! But loss of limbs, some family will probably see this, I was told one relative, badly treated in 1960s for diabetes, lost limbs because the district...

Monitoring type 2 gp note on prescription

I'm supposed to be diet controlled. Blood glucose goes up with infection, so when I had a virus I was told I had to cut the sugar I think (ages ago) (possibly Covid or similar. I think the surgery was just getting rid of old style monitors. I ended up with 2, not in use. I use their accucheck...

Have you been told not to test your blood sugars?

I believe monitoring is very important. I buy the cheapest test strips to top up gp sent cassettes, from specialist diabetes website. There are too many diabetics in my family to take chances. I bought a GlucoRx meter that takes packs of strips, the cheapest I could find! I think the first...

    Dry throat.

Last month or so. My mouth has been dry, coupled with urine urgency. Up anytime after 0400, urgent toilet rush, pad change as recently started to need more clean pads each day. Then back to bed. 0630 start when Husband's night carers leave. Last week or so, urgent rushes have also been daytime...

Greetings. Advice needed about blurry vision.

Hello Stroopwafel, It is not your fault you have diabetes. In my family it must be genetic, (hello to my Dad's nieces and nephews if you read this). There are still judgemental people in the general medical service, who think you live on sweets and never do any work. Your problems may be...

    Immunosuppressants

Sorry this is not much help. I know methotrexate is used for different things, I have arthritis (osteo and rheumatoid). I've been on methotrexate for a few years, made me feel sick at first but I make sure I take the 6 tablets (15mg) with food. I don't think there is a link or possibly...

Monitoring type 2 gp note on prescription

When my repeat prescription came there was a note at the top: 'As you don't have type 1 diabetes and are not taking insulin or medication that puts you at risk of hypoglycaemia you do not need to be taking your blood sugar readings. Type 2 diabetes is monitored with 6-12 monthly Hb1Ac blood...

    OK Rant, apologies in advance

AZ Covid left me feeling awful, a bit of pain, just problems functioning. I spent a few days in my Husband's specialist riser recliner chair while his carers did all the looking after him and got me drinks too. Sending sympathy for that problem. I've had some interesting medical...

    Carb flu/illness

re salt, I've had hyponatraemia, hypo=low natraemia = sodium chloride related, which is 99 % or so table salt. Sodium is one of a range of electrolytes, the things we need to keep the body working. Potassium and magnesium also act as electrolytes. They are needed to make the heart and...

    Diagnosed today...

I tried to respond and the computer lost the message! I've sorted it I hope so here goes. Has the doctor done a thyroid check, may not be the reason but its one thing that could cause problems. Especially as you already have a family member with thyroid issues. It might be a genetic link. Age...

    Not impressed with general practice

See my previous post. Spoke to gp. Told him I wanted to speak to a diabetes nurse. They don't have one now but one gp is a specialist. Had to make an appointment with him at the end of the week. Gp would not discuss the results. I asked about the note re analysis, he just kept repeating I had...
