My parents won't listen to me about low carb

I am type 1 and although my carb intake is quite low, I'm not at the lofty heights (lows?) Of 30 per day ... But I sympathise with the parent issue .... My mum is great in so many ways but the second I arrive at her house, she is trying to feed me. Cakes, biscuits etc especially since I started...

    Pregnant and HbA1C 9.2

When i was pregnant, my hba1c started off higher than ideal but it came down over the course of the pregnancy. Get in front of a diabetic consultant or nurse asap. My hospital had a joint diabetic / ante-natal clinic. Your gp may have to refer you. The process 3 years ago was to test blood...

    Slowly killing self :(

Hi Claire. Like you, I have been diabetic for a very long time and I have a 2 and a half year old. I wanted to focus on a big positive here. You have managed a T1 pregnancy and got a beautiful result. If you can do that, you can do anything! Get on a Dafne type course if you can. It may just...

    Share Your Progress!

Hello I have been diagnosed T1 for 22 years. Last hba1c was 67 (8.3 in old money). Just finished an IDAC course (like DAFNE but over 4 weeks) and have lost 8lbs since I started it. Hoping to put a serious dent in the next hba1c due in August. Well done everyone!

    injecting in a public place

I always inject and test my blood sugar levels in public. I am shocked that anyone would be offended by it. An asthmatic wouldn't need to ask permission to use an inhaler.

How often do you change your needle?

I change the needle for each injection. I didn't use to but they are supposed to be single use and changing each time hurts a lot less.

    Another newbie -type 1

Hello. My name is Julie. I am new to the forum but have been type 1 for 22 years since I was 14. I have just finished an IDAC course which has been eye opening! I am feeling very motivated at the moment and want to continue that. My last hba1c was 67 (or 8.3 in old money). I am confident that I...

Have you done the DAFNE/DESMOND courses or anything similar?

Re: Have you done the DAFNE/DESMOND courses or anything simi Our course was mainly focussed on carb counting and making sure we take exactly the right amount of insulin to match the food. I was clearly taking too much! The section on exercise was good. We also met a pump user, learnt about...

Have you done the DAFNE/DESMOND courses or anything similar?

Re: Have you done the DAFNE/DESMOND courses or anything simi I have just finished the IDAC (insulin dose adjustment course) in North Herts and it was brilliant. My control was okay but is already much tighter, I have lost weight and feel in control for the first time ever and I have been type 1...
