    Cross-party review into the NHS?

I think that people in general [not just diabetics] should be expected to take more responsibility for their own health. That is, they should stop smoking, drink less, lose weight, exercise more. Help to do those things should be given to a certain extent but I'm sure we all know people who...

    Which one do you recommend?

Thanks. It seems that codefree is definitely the one. I don't want anything fancy because my six monthly tests show that I've got things well under control. I just really want to find out how things like the porridge and exercise work for me and if I can make any improvements.

    Which one do you recommend?

Hi Everyone, I'm type 2, diagnosed August 2012 and am managing very well with diet and exercise - no medication. My levels were 57 in Aug '12 but since Aug '13 have been between 46 and 49. I'd like to start testing to see if I can improve things further. Which meter would you recommend? What...

30 day low carb meal plan download from diabetes.co.uk

Thanks. I manage to keep my BG stable and low without too much effort luckily. I was looking at the recipes in the download out of general interest. I eat, and can cope with, a reasonable amount of carbs. I also eat a reasonable amount of fat. As I've always been very skinny I don't really have...

30 day low carb meal plan download from diabetes.co.uk

I've just downloaded this meal plan - recipes for low carb breakfasts, lunches and dinners, for 30 days. These meals average out at only 600 calories per day. I don't know about the rest of you but I'd have to have at least three helpings of each meal per day; either that or starve to death. It...

Hi Smokeykeith, I thought I would never be able to do that, then my chiropractor got me started on Pilates and you can see the result. I'm getting older too, I was 65 when that photo was taken and I'd been doing Pilates for 6 months. Maybe you could give it a go?

    Sugar/sweeteners

Well done with the chocs! It sounds like this could be a new starting point for you with the house to sort out to keep you busy [as if you're not already busy enough as it is]. It's hard work clearing up a disaster area of a house but it's the sort of job where you can actually see how much...

    Sugar/sweeteners

I can see your problem - but I know you'll get there. Did you manage to avoid those chocs? Why not try what I do? I always have nuts, seeds, cheese, packs of cold meat, tinned tuna and mackerel etc. available for when I want to just grab something quickly. Would it help [assuming you can find...

    Sugar/sweeteners

Sorry to hear you have other problems to contend with; it can't be easy. But, no, I don't have any support. I still make a dessert for my husband every day and make him cakes and so on and I cook cup cakes and make sweets with the Grandchildren, but the way I see it is, I'm in charge of what I...

    Sugar/sweeteners

Hello Everybody, There seems to be quite a lot of chat about sweeteners at the moment, which is best, can they raise your sugar levels etc. My way of dealing with that question was simply to go cold turkey. When I was diagnosed I just gave up all sugar added type foods and refused to use any...

Improve your HbA1c in 3 minutes

On July 15th I posted about my exercise routine and it seems to be working! I've just had my annual check, my BP, kidney function, BMI etc are all excellent and my HbA1c has gone down from 57 to 46. My exercise guru has also started making me do much harder exercises now and instead of 'lady...

    Very pleased with myself!

I haven't been provided with a meter, presumably because I don't take any meds [except Statins for the cholesterol]. I've decided, that since my cholesterol is low now - it was the main reason that I had porridge for breakfast 5 times a week - that I might give up that and have something like...

    Very pleased with myself!

Glad to be of help! I think the very strenuous 30 min workout that I do every day has as much to do with it as what I eat. Certainly my glucose levels have fallen much faster in the last six months which is when my workout started to get much harder [thanks to my trainer!]

    Very pleased with myself!

Hi, I think part of the reason I can cope with the carbs is that I do my main, 30 minute workout, about 1 hour after my main meal. It's a very strenuous 30 mins that raises my heartbeat and makes me break into a sweat. Do you exercise much? I know quite a lot of people don't for various reasons.
