Why don't Dr's prescribe testing kits?

My DN gave me strips and testing kit right from the start. She actually gave me two so I could keep one at work and one at home. But when I was first diagnosed I was taking insulin for the first 3 months or so, so I guess that may have been a part of it. I do think that I become compulsive...

    Readings going up...

I've been diagnosed T2 for about 1.5 years now, but to be honest I still feel very anxious and stressed about it Literally every time I test my BS I kind of feel my heart in my life a little bit (although I couldnt objectively say what I'm worried about) My BS tends to be between 5.8 and 6.1...

    Blood sugar creeping up

Well as i said I'm not an expert - but the dietitian I spoke to said that on the whole you shouldnt eat a lot of bread - but brown was better than white because the carbs were more "complex" and your digestive system would therefore release the energy from them more slowly. I've made an effort...

    Missed 1 metformin dose

I'm type 2 diabetic and the only medication I take is metform. I normally take 2 tablets at about 7:30 and 2 at about 22:00 Today I was hurrying in the morning and forgot the morning dosage. I got back in at about 20:30 and took two tablets. Should I take another two at 22:00, or just leave...

    Blood sugar creeping up

From what I was told, avoid things like white bread, white rice... for carbs have more "wholemeal" type things. before dinner my bs was 5.3, which is more normal to what it usually is. I am going to try setting max level of 50g per meal rather than 80 and see if that makes things better.

    Blood sugar creeping up

3 meals a day. I wouldnt say that I have 80g of carbs every meal, just that I try to never go over that. Breakfast I think normally about 60g (3 weetabix, skimmed milk, and an anti-cholestral drink, Lunch about 50g (2 brown bread sandwiches, a handful of mange tout), dinner I guess normally...

    Blood sugar creeping up

I dont know if anyone else has had an experience like this? I was diagnosed about a year ago as Type 2 diabetic, and my blood sugar was about 15-18 at the time. For the first couple of months I took insulin and metformin (2 tablets twice a day), but am now just on metformin. I normally take...

    foam in urine

I wonder if anybody could help or give benefit of their experience. I am type 2 diabetic, diagnosed about 9 months ago. I dont have to use insulin, but I do take metformin (1000 mg * 2 a day) I am quite overweight, and my blood pressure is higher than normal (high normal according to doctor)...

    Driving license

I have recently been diagnosed as diabetic and I do need to take insulin at the moment (although not sure yet if type 1 or type 2) The nurse I saw said that I needed to advise the DVLA that I was reliant on insulin I checked their website but the only form I can find is D4 (which seems to be...

    I think I am diabetic...

I had a 500 kcal meal 2 hours ago (and the insulin dosage) and now its 6.6... I think I ought to stop testing myself every couple of hours and.... the nurse did say only to do it twice a day for now.

    I think I am diabetic...

I am still struggling to understand how my blood sugar can move around so much I guess. I woke up today and it was 9.9, just before lunch it was 6.6, now 3 hours after lunch (and insulin) it is 16.4. I guess maybe it just takes some times to work out the right dosage or whatever...

    I think I am diabetic...

Well, I am diabetic. Ended up in hospital all over the weekend because I need insulin and they wouldn't discharge me until diabetic nurse had shown me how to test blood and inject (which is fair enough) They aren't sure if type 1 or type 2, they think more likely type 2 because of my weight...

    I think I am diabetic...

First of all, sorry as I suppose there are lot of these sorts of posts here... For the last week I have been noticeably very thirsty, even waking up in the night and wanting a drink, and thus have been going to the toilet a lot more. I haven't been feeling particularly tired or any more hungry...
