I thought I was immortal.
I now weigh 17 stones and have BP around 155/85.
I have dodged the GP for 10 years! But menopause has nearly killed me so here I am.
I’m awaiting blood tests results before I am given medication.
I’m thinking of say no thank you.
I’m fat and convinced it’s the source...
Get the book Carbs and Cals. It shows photographs of real food with portion sizes and gives you the nutritional information. It was a real eye opener for me. I considered myself really quite educated about food but carbs per portion in somethings really surprised me.
If you make changes to your...
If you haven't been given blood glucose test meter I suggest you buy one and keep a food diary for a couple of weeks. Test when you first get up, before each meal, one hour after meals and two hours after meals. Lots of us bought S D Codefree meters as they are fairly cheap and test strips are...
Ok. Why don't you give us a few sample meals that you like and we will see if we can offer low carb suggestions. Are you testing your blood sugar at home? But ditch the Lucozade. It's hard for me to think of a worse drink for a diabetic friendly diet.
What is your diet like? Lucozade is a pretty bad choice but I expect youknow that. Any excess weight to lose? Can you increase exercise? For me losing weight, cutting back on carbs and icreasing the amount I exercised transformed me. I have fallen off the wagon more times than I care to...
There is a great book called Carbs and Cals. This shows actual photographs of food and portion sizes. If he has no excess weight to lose then keeping low carb would help keep levels low. How about increasing exercise levels?
What levels would you normally expect to see? Have you been eating anything different? Any change of medication? It's not unusual for blood sugar to go off balance if unwell. Are you sure the meter is working? Test strips ok?
Have a look at the Slim and save website (also their stuff on Ebay), not especially cheap but lots of low carb instant soups and 'meals' as well as shakes. Lots of variety.
All sounds like good food but pretty useless for a diabetic. Carbohydrates are far too high, dried fruit is sugar laden! Try taking your bloods before and after a high carb meal and then after a low carb meal and see the difference
