    Dapagliflozin - please help!

Hi everyone, I've been diabetic for about 20 years managing to keep it in check with diet and exercise (only walking due to other health issues). Recently I've had problems with my joints (including a torn meniscus) which has prevented me from doing any serious walking, as a result my glucose...

    Abnormal HBA1C

I can’t cut my carbs too much as I have coeliacs disease and can’t eat dairy either. I was sent to a dietician because I kept having low blood glucose at that stage, because there was no gluten to slow down how quickly I digested it. Now I seem to have gone the other way. Can’t win. Couldn’t...

Is that still a good level?

    Abnormal HBA1C

Not specifically more carbs, although I’ve struggled with mental health recently, which has led me to stay in more. My granddaughter died at 15 days old - long story, she was in an incubator from birth, and also my dog had to be put to sleep in lock-down because he had a tumour which was masked...

    Abnormal HBA1C

They seemed to have changed how it is presented in my notes, the HbA1C was 58 mmol/ml. This is how it appears on my on-line doctor’s notes.

    Abnormal HBA1C

Yes, that’s fine. They’ve ranged between 9.7 to 15.1 and anything in between recently, the 15.1 reading was just before I went to bed, so I sat up and had a cup of tea and after a while it dropped to about 12 I think it was - the memory on my meter reader only stores up to 14 days.

    Abnormal HBA1C

Hi, yes, I was pointed in the direction of a statin too, I’ve resisted up to now, because I have fibromyalgia and have enough problems with my muscles, (long story) and was taken off Bedroflumethiazide, as it was causing problems with my potassium levels - I do take another blood pressure tablet...

    Abnormal HBA1C

Hi, yes, I have a glucose meter and I do check my readings regularly, this is what has got me worried, because I’ve had high readings - particularly in the summer, when we had a bit of a heat wave, and I was trying to drink lots of water to try and bring the readings down and even missing meals...

    Abnormal HBA1C

Hi, sorry, I’ve only just seen this, as I didn’t get any notifications. I was diagnosed with diabetes in 2001, and have kept my glucose controlled by diet and exercise ever since, apart from one blip, when I was put on metformin for a couple of months - it didn’t agree with me and I had...

    Abnormal HBA1C

Today I noticed on my surgery’s records that my HBA1C says “abnormal” followed by “no further action taken”. At what level should I be getting medication? I have managed my diabetes for many years by diet and exercise alone, but recently I’ve had other health issues and I don’t get out for walks...

    COVID vaccination

I don’t know what area you live in, but we had flu vaccines back in September in our area. I hope you manage to get one!

    COVID vaccination

Yes, I remember the thalidomide treatment. It was my generation that it affected. I understand your anxiety. I feel that 7 months is a very short time to trial any vaccine. I’m not sure how I feel about it, I’m very cautious by nature and I’ve heard so many things for and against. I don’t know...

Wow! That’s a bit of an eye opener!

    Nightmares and BG...and Garlic.

I have one of those blankets, and they are quite heavy! I did feel pinned down and it made my trapped nerves in my back worse. I’m not sure if they would help with nightmares though.

    Nightmares and BG...and Garlic.

Yes, I meant the link between evil spirits and garlic was a myth, sorry I worded that wrongly. I know there are evil spirits.

    Nightmares and BG...and Garlic.

It’s possible there could be a link with BG and nightmares, although I don’t know of any studies made. As for the garlic, it’s probably just psychosomatic, but hey, if it works for you, who am I to judge. I would say though that myths and evil spirits, are just that - myths.

    Type 2 Hypos

Yes, I have been having hypos, especially at the beginning of lockdown when I couldn’t get the food I usually eat. I have Coeliac disease as well and also can’t tolerate dairy so my body doesn’t process food as slowly as other people.
