    Type1. I have a question.

Thanks for all the replies - I have reduced my basal levels since low carbing and do regular fasts to check and they are fine. The hypos are at different times, after different foods and I can see no pattern. The depleted glycogen reserves is an interesting idea, I shall have to investigate further.

    Type1. I have a question.

I have been low-carbing for several months now and I wonder if anyone has found it more difficult to treat hypos? I am definately having less hypos, but they seem much harder to treat. I used to just have 1/3 glass of full fat coke to get it up and then carbs to keep it up. Now I am having a...

At what sugar level would you fall into a coma?

I know exactly what you mean Myarnton1, I am far more likely to have symptoms when around 4 than around 1.

    insulin pump vs insulin pen

I used a pen for many years and have had a pump for the last 7 years. For me the pump is a godsend, I was quite unsure how I would feel having something permanently attached to me but you soon get used to it. I find the freedom it gives with working more like your pancreas should is fantastic...

    Lump on taking canula out

I am allergic to the adhesive and have found the barrier spray useless. I do use tea tree oil which I like to think helps the sites heal better, but I have perfect images of the inset sites on my skin for as much as a fortnight after removal. Like you it is usually painless when in, although...

Would you take a cure if it became available? Curious?

Not always, but quite often. My partner usually knows first when I start laughing at him! I had a young, funky diabetes specialist nurse when I was diagnosed and she said to keep a mars bar by the bed, being young and naive I was mortified by the very idea. The first time I had sex...

Would you take a cure if it became available? Curious?

YES YES YES YES!!!!!!!! Can you imagine being able to go out without a bag full of coke, glucogel and testing kit, not having to constantly worry about making a total prat of myself when hypo (no warnings), being able to drive again, being able to have sex without having to stop halfway to check...

    Thyroid and type1

I have an underactive thyroid (another lovely side issue of diabetes). My symptoms were tiredness/lethargy, weight gain, depression and my blood sugars were all over the place. I'm on levothyroxcine which helps with my thyroid levels but unfortunately have had some of the side effects such as...

What's the lowest you've gone without noticing?

You're all right about what we perceive to be okay may be totally rubbish when low. I am very prone to deny the chances of being hypo when I am low, I crashed the whole computer system at work because I didn't understand why my computer wasn't working properly, I was convinced the engineers had...

What's the lowest you've gone without noticing?

I've been LO on my meter and felt fine but can feel **** at 3.9. This diabetes lark makes no sense:nailbiting:. I've been unconscious and conscious in ambulance where it's too low to register at all, not sure what that means. Fun, fun, fun. Usually it's someone else who notices first, I find...

    Insurance For Pumps

I used to have mine covered as a special item with my contents insurance but they didn't really understand it and put a big load on my insurance. I changed to Insurance4InsulinPumps, I like the fact that the guy who set it up has a diabetic daughter on a pump so understands the needs of a pump...

    Unexplained Hypo's

Hi, I was diagnosed with carpal tunnel and given wrist restraints to wear. I had always slept with my hands in a very awkward position (I kind of bend them back on themselves) and I think it was probably this that was causing the wrist problems. Using the restraints I taught myself to change my...

"Best" things doctors have said to you

These are brilliant. I haven't had anything daft from the diabetes people but GP does tend to blame everything on diabetes. Just last week had this from a woman locum - Me: I'm having trouble sleeping GP: You need to exercise to exhaust your body Me: I find it difficult to exercise more than I...
