    Corticosteroids and controlling blood sugar

Thanks. I'm on 40mg for 5 days so pretty sure I don't need that much. My usual combined insulin dose is about 50units a day so have increased at the moment from 27 basal to 40 basal and seems to be ok. I guess because I'm sick as well, hence the need for steroids I have to monitor closely and am...

    Corticosteroids and controlling blood sugar

Hi I have started a short course of steroids for acute asthma for the second time in 6 weeks and they have a horrendous impact on my sugars. I have increased my Levemir by 50% for each dose at the moment (last time in Dec I only did half that and it wasn't enough) but I wondered if anyone else...

    Simple android logging app recommendations?

I love MySugr. It has been my saviour in starting to ale some personal responsibility for testing and logging and noticing patterns. It great that you can tag and see if you guessed your carbs the impact that had on later readings. I think it is probably most useful if you have been on a DAFNE...

    Post surgery recovery

I had emergency surgery for a small bowel obstruction about 6 weeks ago; full cut open not keyhole surgery. I have had terrible trouble with wound healing ever since including infection and over granulation. It is really getting me down. I am trying really hard to keep my sugars in target and...

    So fed up!!!

With me lantus only lasted 18 hours. Levemir is supposed to be taken twice a day, if only taken once you have to take extra quick acting to deal with the glucose which means that you have to eat three times a day to sustain good BG control. Kim x

Can type 1 diabetes be wrongly diagnosed??

Could be that language is enough to cover what you eat, it depends on how many carbs you eat. If I don't eat any carbs I don't take any novo rapid. If my background insulin is high I could eat some carbs without injecting. Kim x

Not happy with this diabetes scenario

Sounds like you could do with a DAFNE course to improve your control, 10 is really high and nerve damage such as causes downstairs issues is irreversible. With DAFNE you can eat carbs but adjust your insulin according to what you eat, injecting every time you eat and testing before every meal so...

    So fed up!!!

I take levemir it twice a day as only works for 8-14 hours. I have jut completed a DAFNE course and it is amazing at enabling you to self adjust your insulin and calculate ever changing carb to insulin ratios. If you really want to improve your diabetes management and understand how it all works...

    carbs...

Background insulin never stop but for food don't take any for protein, vegetables or pulses. Anything very low GI doesn't need quick acting insulin. Cherrys you can eat and not inject. Ask your diabetes nurse/doctor about going on a DAFNE course. Beat thing I have done it is so liberating and...

High HB1ac and pregnancy outcomes - your stories please

In the first trimester high BG is associated with increased risk of malformations particularly the spine but in the second and third trimester you need to keep your blood sugar between 3.5 and 5.5 as otherwise the baby produces insulin for your blood sugar and it causes the baby to get too big...
