Have you ever wondered about what a bad hypo is like?

I was diagnosed a week or so after my 3rd birthday and have had plenty of “moments” during my life. There are the slow burners which give me plenty of opportunity to react and sort myself out. Times the effects of a hypo have been disguised due to me - being inebriated/getting -ahem- or doing...

    Petition for David Clapson enquiry

Just another 2500 before the 200,000 mark. Brilliant! 50,000 more after that to hit 250,000 and force an independant enquiry of these draconian benefit sanctions. Sent from the Diabetes Forum App

    Help, <<gulp>>

If you were type 1, you'd be pi**ing like a horse every couple of hours, look drawn out in your face and would be throwing up by now. You wouldn't last much more than a couple weeks if you were lucky. Type 1's do not produce any insulin whatsoever and your blood sugar levels would be 30+ after...

    Petition for David Clapson enquiry

Yeah, good stuff. That thread is about another subject though, some people may not see that/those posts. The situations people who have next to nothing are being put through because of cuts being made, when there are plenty of people and company's that make more money in 1 year than most people...

    Petition for David Clapson enquiry

Most of you will have heard about David Clapson, an ex-soldier who died after being sanctioned by the Jobcentre and not taking his insulin because he had no money to buy food. I, myself, was on JSA until recently and have been sanctioned missing appointments when ill and even for missing an...

    Hypo's

As noblehead suggests, he needs to stay away from the hypo's and monitor his levels regularly. I'm a very relaxed and laid back person but I can get "tetchy" when I'm low and if someone says something I don't like, instead of taking it in and thinking about how I'm going to reply or just...

how high and how low have you been?

High - 35+ As a teenager I was an idiot and went 3-4 days without injecting Low - 0.6 Had issues when they changed my insulin, suffered numerous fits throughout the night. When the 0.6 happened i don't think I'd had a seizure but who knows, I woke up and didn't feel too "out of it" tbh but...

    Accu check mobile

I've got an accu-chek. Had it a few years now, does the job. Heard a lot about this sort of thing happening quite a bit unfortunately but If my doctor tried tried to fob me off with a meter I didn't want I would tell him where he could shove it and to go f**k himself and if it came to not...

You will mutilate and kill me, so I will say goodby forever. Soon.

Need the nicotine? Get yourself a vapouriser. No tar, chemicals or any of that ****. Costs far less than fags, tobacco or the standard e-cigarettes which are a complete rip-off and you can keep your hand occupied as well as lowering the nicotine levels of your e-liquid should you choose.

    I can't stay awake

I know how you feel, I used to wake up after a good 8-10 hour sleep and be yawning my head off by lunch time. By the time it got to around 5 in the evening I was wasted. As soon as I sat down to get comfortable that was it, I was out and I would wake up after midnight. I inject twice a day and...

    Cheese

I was a bit surprised when my dietician told me to eat cheese if I was hungry but had above normal blood sugars. Turns out cheese really doesn't have that many calories for the amounts we usually eat. Not good if you've got cholesterol issues but in turns of putting weight on, fat isn't the main...

Coke and chocolate in vending machines in hospital

It's a good point but I don't think I'd want to buy a salad from a vending machine to be honest. I do think there should be more healthy options that are easily available at hospitals though. At the QE in Birmingham they have a fresh fruit stall right outside the main entrance which is quite...

Am I Classed as disabled now I have diabetes ?

A deaf person can run just fine, are they not disabled? What if they have a hearing aid, are they not disabled? People in wheelchairs play sports, are they not disabled? The definition of disability isn't just about whether someone is is able to move around unaided. Diabetes shouldn't stop you...

Am I Classed as disabled now I have diabetes ?

Don't agree with what I've seen here. I would say yes. "A physical or mental condition that limits a person’s movements, senses, or activities" "A disadvantage or handicap, especially one imposed or recognized by the law" There are many people that have diabetes who are professional athletes...

Did your GP fail to diagnose diabetes?

I was ill over my third birthday, had lost a lot of weight etc and my mom took me to the doctors. He said I had some sort of infection. A week and a half later I collapsed, was rushed to hospital and went into a coma. 1 blood test at the doctors would have shown exactly what the situation was...

The Good Things of being Diabetic

The good things I may have learnt through being diabetic are far outweighed by the illness itself. It's like winning £20 on the lottery after the bank has just taken your house. Diabetes is effed-up but it is what it is, just gotta deal with it.
