been told by gp diabetes type 2 have no hypo

This is nonsense; I am Type 2 with insulin and have had small hypos several times as my nurse and I try the find the most appropriate dose of insulin based on diet. She is very careful to try and avoid hypos and would rather I had 7-10 mmols/L for BG levels that going as low as 4 or less. I have...

    Using Lancet hurts.

You should be able to adjust the depth of penetration of the lancet. If you use 'max' you could have a sore finger, but if you keep reducing it then you will find the depth at which you get a good 'blob' with minimum pain.

Have you been told not to test your blood sugars?

For several years after I was diagnosed with T2, I was prescribed strips and lancets and all went well in using them. Then suddenly i was told by my GP that it wasn't really necessary to test T2 diabetes and strips and lancets were no longer offered on prescription. However, I had a major...

Type 2's: What was your fasting blood glucose in a morning?

I've been advised that BG = 4 is verging on a hypo and if I do get a value like this then I must have carbs to get it up from here.

Partner is T2, has lost weight, taken control but is really weak and tired?

I was a well-controlled Type 2 diabetic patient but my blood sugars started to increase fairly rapidly and I was started on insulin. Along side this I was given dietary advice, the most significant of which was to up my carb intake as it was far too low. (I was to eat a 'balanced diet' as there...

    impaired glucose tolerance

I was diagnosed with Type 2, 7 yrs ago, and it was well under control with diet and exercise. The GP nurse was adamant that I didn't need to keep testing my blood sugar levels. About a month ago, I started feeling unwell with no energy and blurred vision. I asked a local pharmacy if they would...

I doubt it because you would have other symptoms - thirsty, visiting the loo often, etc, but you could ask your GP for a blood test to be safe.
