    Pump

I've been on my pump since 2006. I was contemplating going back to injections last year, however my pump broke just a week after. I missed it by the next day. It made me realise how much I actually rely on my pump.

    Remembering to inject

I used to set alarms on my phone for usual meal times etc. I know this isn't perfect but it may be a start. I have a terrible memory. You would definitely think it should be easy for us to remember to have our insulin, but apparently not lol. At least I'm not the only one. Plus it's easier for...

Finally feel like I'm getting somewhere!

I was dreading this one. After finally starting to take care of myself, I would have been devastated if there wasn't a change. But remember, if this one isn't what you expect, it isn't the end of the world. It just tells you that there are some improvements to be made :-)

Finally feel like I'm getting somewhere!

I got into a mindset that I just couldn't do it any more. I was really low. But I gave myself a telling off. I started by finally managing to sort out my basal rates. Once that was done, I stuck rigidly to my carb counting. I was being quite complacent with it all, but now I really try my...

Finally feel like I'm getting somewhere!

It seems my determination to get my blood sugars back within normal range is finally paying off. Just thought I'd say that hard work really does pay off! Hba1c has come down from 72 to 56! Still not perfect but woo hoo! Any tips on lowering this even further. I still eat quite a heavy carb...

That is a really good idea, thank you. :-)

Eat As Much As You Can - Thai restaurant

It all depends on how much you think you'll be eating. Maybe have a quick look at what's on offer and work out sensibly how much you think you'll realistically be able to eat. Inject for that, then if you eat less, have a sugary drink on hand to take up the rest of the insulin, or if you eat...

    Tingling

This is exactly how I feel. I have dropped so many things which is so unlike me. I have been through two iPhones now so it's getting quite expensive! Haha. I currently have another 2 week wait to see my doctor so hopefully I can get some answers then. I hope you do too. The other doctor you saw...

A little of what you fancy

On a more positive note, I treat myself to milkybar buttons once in a blue moon :-) nothing better than a little treat here and there. Makes living with diabetes a little more easy to deal with :-)

A little of what you fancy

Apparently this is going to be used to nit pick at type 1 diabetics? This thread is to say what people enjoy, not advertising to people what they can and can't eat :-S

    Type 1 dka

I've had it 18 years now. The first case of DKA was in 2008. But I had never been told about it and there is plenty of diabetics in my family. It was just a lack of knowledge really. Yes it can be frustrating when people don't truly understand what it's like. My parents aren't nasty or...

    Type 1 dka

Yes mine was very similar. Being my first case of DKA, I didn't know what it was. My parents thought I'd been drinking and put it down to that. I was up all night being sick, to the point where my parents finally believed me I hadn't touched any alcohol and they took me to the hospital. Scariest...

    Type 1 dka

Yes mine was a missed infection by my doctor. I was told it was a bad cold... I had a chest infection and throat infection. But yes definitely the joys of diabetes! Lol. Determined to never get to that point again though! :-)

    Type 1 dka

I have had DKA a total of three times. What I have found is that there is a major difference in treatment in regards to how advanced the DKA is. The first time I had DKA was the worst. It developed in a total of 2 hours due to a serious infection. I was admitted straight away, put on oxygen...

How much did your car insurance increase by?

I've never had any premium added and I'm type 1, they just add it to your notes that you are diabetic. Prices definitely shouldn't increase.

    Tingling

Hi everyone For 18 years I have been a type 1 diabetic, now using an insulin pump for the last 8 years. For a while now I have been having problems with my hands. It started off with a clumsy feeling and keep dropping things... This was investigated for carpal tunnel but that came back...

    Abnormal liver function levels

I've been type 1 for 18 years and have also been told my liver function is high. It was put down to having fatty liver and that was it. I'm perfect weight for my height but I don't low carb so maybe that's the reason. If in doubt then ask your doctors.

    Partner wants a dog...

Labradors are pretty adaptable to anywhere. I have a chocolate labrador and our house isn't the largest. He thrives on his long walks. But he's happy enough. Just you have to go to a very good breeder if you have a puppy. Their health is a major concern if the breeder isn't committed to making...

What was your diagnosis blood sugar level?

Mine was 63 mmol whilst in hospital. The doctors couldn't believe I wasn't more ill. But 2 weeks later I was out and feeling a whole lot better. That was 18 years ago and still going strong
